The event featured some of the top teams and talent from the Southern California area as well as Skyline Prep from Arizona. I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at some of the big men who stood out.
1. David Verstraeten – LA Premier Prep 2024
Verstraeten is a versatile big man who can play inside and play on the wing as well. He makes strong, decisive moves to the basket; able to hit defenders with the little up and under move. Can finish consistently through traffic. Very active around the basket. Can shoot the three-ball consistently. Able to pass well out of the post.
2. Kevin Alabi – Skyline Prep 2024
Alabi was one of the top hustle and energy players at the event. Was consistently diving on the floor chasing down loose balls and doing the dirty work. Good screen setter. Active on the glass; does well positioning himself for rebounds. Good offensive rebounder in particular getting extra possessions and put backs.
3. Eli Levi – Palisades 2025
Levi is kind of a big man/wing hybrid. He’ll play up against most high school lineups but is probably best suited as a big wing. He’s a floor spacing forward, able to step out and consistently shoot from three-point range. Showed a little bit of ball-handling ability. Good rebounder as well.
4. Daniel Howard – Birmingham 2025
Howard stood out as a good defensive frontcourt player. He’s a long-armed defender; extends well to contest shots and get blocks. Puts himself in good rebounding position. Fills the lanes well in transition; can be a finisher at the basket. Able to establish post position, hold his position and call for the ball.
