Special Note : Coach Gus Alfieri a Long Island high school basketball coaching legend at St Anthony’s. Gus ran the All American basketball camp for kids for many years on Long Island. He helped guide the Friars to 2 state championships in 18 years. Recently inducted into the St John’s hall of fame. Personally ; he helped me get into high school coaching on Long Island 24 years ago. RIP Coach.
Posseseses a strong handle. Really good attacking the defense getting into the lane, can finish drives off with either hand, can split defenders. Guards well on the perimeter. Has become an effective shooter from beyond the arc when the situation calls for it.
A fast tough guard. An extremely quick first step. Finishes through traffic while drawing fouls. A tough defender. Can knock down shots.
Hassan is a long athletic guard. Very skilled. Has the ability to stop on a dime and rise up and shoot it. Shoots it well.
Jacob has tremendous athleticism. Very explosive to the rim. Finishes plays with emphatic dunks. He is able to score at the rim in a variety of ways using his athletic ability.
Night after night Dior is a tough match up. He is a bulky strong guard who understands how to use his body defending or scoring. An excellent slasher to the rim. In games we have seen him he has shown the ability to score in bunches.
If you’ve been reading my reports you know I fell in love with this young players game early last season. Now everyone knows Kamari’s game. An explosive wing who can bang inside. A force off the catch finishing at the rim. A defensive presence, using his size. Moves his hands and feet disrupting offensive sets.
A smooth playmaker. Has a really nice handle. Poised and a player who is very confident and never in a rush on the court. Makes good decisions. An outstanding shooter with deep range
One of the top pull up jump shooters in the city. Excellent stopping quickly and getting off his shot. What is most impressive is that a lot of the times it is against taller defenders. Excellent ball handling and passing skills. A very underrated player in the city from a recruiting radar standpoint.
Highlights
(Pictured) As skilled and as poised at the point guard position as anyone. Crafty confident guard. Can run a team as the floor general and at the same time score the ball. Makes plays for himself and his teammates. Excellent court vision and awareness.
Really good guard skill set. Can handle ball in space or tight quaters. Changes direction really well. A flat out scorer. Has displayed the ability to score at all three levels, but never losing the guard mindset to get others involved.
Highlights
Lucas is a match up problem in high school with his size and ability to shoot it. Expect that to continue at the next level. A point forward skill set. Not afraid to mix it up on the boards on both ends. He gives you the added bonus of being able to clear the defensive glass and lead the break with the ball on the deck. Excellent shooter from deep but can also get by defenders when they guard him tight.
Excellent skill set for this long wing. Handles the ball at an high level on the open floor or in tight spots. His length enables him to defend at a high level as well. Can score with a variety of finishes.
Elijah games has evolved in all aspects. Has always been a really good shooter from the perimeter. The lefty big man now combines that skill with sheer strength and athleticism to get to the rim and finish. A physically imposing looking player. A defensive force either on the ball or at the rim. Elijah has now gained the confidence to put the ball on the floor and finish above the rim. One of the most improved players in the CHSAA. But everyone knew it was just a matter of time.
Highlights
High basketball IQ. Really good shooter. Elite level ball handler. He uses his dribble to create space. A shot maker. A young player who always seems to make the right play.
