[player_tooltip player_id='2299464' first='Cam' last='Reyes'] led the early charge and halfway through the first quarter, the Garner Trojans led the Titans 10-2 in the opener of the Greater River Neuse Conference.

The Titans would call a timeout and a few buckets from [player_tooltip player_id='2285809' first='Loddie' last='Leach'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2285808' first='Kai' last='Muschette'] would bring the deficit to six points but the Trojans would respond with a run of their own behind buckets from [player_tooltip player_id='1596874' first='Tayshaun' last='Whitner'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2299468' first='Geren' last='Holmes']. After one quarter, Garner led South Garner 18-8.

In the second quarter, sophomore wing [player_tooltip player_id='2299468' first='Geren' last='Holmes'] would pace things alongside Reyes on the offensive front. Holmes would score seven of his nine points, including two emphatic dunks while Reyes would score two more buckets in the paint. [player_tooltip player_id='1585788' first='Keaton' last='Bloms'] and Lucas Dowless would both knock down a pair of 3-pointers for Garner. South Garner would keep pace though thanks to the shooting of [player_tooltip player_id='2285804' first='Jayden' last='Littles']. He knocked down three 3-pointers as they put up 22 points as a squad. At halftime, Garner led 41-30.

In the third quarter, [player_tooltip player_id='1585789' first='Ghab' last='Scott'] woke up in the backcourt as he was given opportunities to run the offense. He put up eight of the team's 17 points in the frame to help the Trojans keep their distance. South Garner would get two more 3-pointers from Littles and they scored 14 points as a team, but they could never seem to get their offense going against the Garner defense. After three quarters, Garner led 58-44.

Things stalled in a big way for both offenses in the fourth quarter as the Trojans dared the Titans to guard them on the perimeter with a big lead built already. Garner would put up eight points in the fourth quarter while South Garner would post just seven points and concede defeat in the waning seconds. Garner would hand the Titans their first loss of the 2023-24 season.

It was a good first win in Greater River Neuse Conference action as Garner held the Titans to a season-low 51 points, Stifling defense and an impressive pace kept the Trojans in the lead as dunks and layups in the open floor gave them their second victory in a row to move to 3-2 on the season. They'll look to keep their winning streak intact when they face Willow Spring in another conference matchup on Tuesday night.

Final - Garner 66 - South Garner 51
<!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1585789"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":["override_image"],"_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_player_featured_image":2299461,"_player_evaluations_0_player_featured_image":"field_62f141137ead9","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"Scott had his best quarter in the third to push the Trojans over the hump to start the second half.
