About Tayshaun
Expert Analysis
Brandon Moore | Prep Hoops Scout
Whitner is a dynamic guard with a complete offensive repertoire. He can score at all 3 levels. He has great ball-handling ability and he uses that to get past defenders and finish at the rim. He never seem sped up, controls his pace and the pace of his teammates. Not just satisfied with being an attacker, Whitner can shoot the ball from behind the arc and he does so with confidence. Any team that signs this young man will be getting a steal.

Whitner had himself a coming out party of sorts in the John Wall Holiday Invitational for Garner High. Despite their 1-2 finish, he still managed to come up big for the Trojans with a 30-point outing on 11-of-18 shooting from the floor and 4-of-9 shooting from deeep to go along with five rebounds and two assists. He’s starting to find his confidence as a scoring threat, especially inside the painted area. He finished shooting 51.2 percent from the filed and 30.4 percent from deep across their three games in the event. He’s an underrated guard prospect that DII and DIII programs in the region should get eyes on.

Whitner didn’t have the best shooting night but he still managed to stay involved in the game and find ways to impact the game. He finished with nine points including an And-1 opportunity in the fourth quarter as the Trojans tried to battle back into the game.

is a floor general that’s flown under the radar with
No Guts No Glory NC
this grassroots cycle. He’s an aggressive floor general that’s shown he can get hot in a hurry behind the arc and as a playmaking paint-toucher when operating off the bounce. He’s due to have a strong senior campaign in the Garner Magnet High backcourt as they look to make another push in the NCHSAA State Playoffs in 2023-24. DII programs in the region should get eyes on him.

The intensity that he brings on the defensive end of the floor is an attribute that you have to love. He’s constantly applying pressure which leads to some forced turnovers and rushed possessions while staying solid on the offensive end, making good decisions to put teammates in position to score.

is a guard that’s finding his way in the 2024 class in the state. He’s shown he can make things happen for others and control the pace at the lead guard spot just as well as he can find his own shot as a threat on the perimeter. As he shows he can defend at a high level and make his presence felt on the opposite end, look for colleges to start drawing interest in him. He’s running with
No Guts No Glory NC
this summer.

is an emerging combo guard to get to know at Garner High given his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter and create off the bounce in space. He did well to make an impact off the bench all season long for the Trojans as they went 13-1 in the Greater Neuse River Conference and won the conference tournament championship in 2022-23. He’s an underrated combo guard on the recruiting front that’s capable of defending either guard spot and making things happen on all three levels off the bounce. He’ll be a name to watch this spring/summer with
No Guts No Glory NC
on the grassroots scene.
