Garner High didn’t hesitate to bring the pressure from the jump and it showed on the scoreboard. Cam Reyes Cam Reyes 6'0" | CG Garner | 2025 State NC led the early charge and halfway through the first quarter, the Garner Trojans led the Titans 10-2 in the opener of the Greater River Neuse Conference.
The Titans would call a timeout and a few buckets from Loddie Leach Loddie Leach 5'9" | PG South Garner | 2025 NC and Kai Muschette Kai Muschette 6'1" | CG South Garner | 2025 NC would bring the deficit to six points but the Trojans would respond with a run of their own behind buckets from Tayshaun Whitner Tayshaun Whitner 6'0" | PG Garner Magnet | 2024 State NC and Geren Holmes Geren Holmes 6'5" | SF Garner | 2026 State NC . After one quarter, Garner led South Garner 18-8.
In the second quarter, sophomore wing Geren Holmes Geren Holmes 6'5" | SF Garner | 2026 State NC would pace things alongside Reyes on the offensive front. Holmes would score seven of his nine points, including two emphatic dunks while Reyes would score two more buckets in the paint. Keaton Bloms Keaton Bloms 6'6" | PF Garner | 2025 State NC and Lucas Dowless would both knock down a pair of 3-pointers for Garner. South Garner would keep pace though thanks to the shooting of Jayden Littles Jayden Littles 6'3" | SG South Garner | 2025 NC . He knocked down three 3-pointers as they put up 22 points as a squad. At halftime, Garner led 41-30.
In the third quarter, Ghab Scott Ghab Scott 5'10" | PG Garner | 2025 State NC woke up in the backcourt as he was given opportunities to run the offense. He put up eight of the team’s 17 points in the frame to help the Trojans keep their distance. South Garner would get two more 3-pointers from Littles and they scored 14 points as a team, but they could never seem to get their offense going against the Garner defense. After three quarters, Garner led 58-44.
Things stalled in a big way for both offenses in the fourth quarter as the Trojans dared the Titans to guard them on the perimeter with a big lead built already. Garner would put up eight points in the fourth quarter while South Garner would post just seven points and concede defeat in the waning seconds. Garner would hand the Titans their first loss of the 2023-24 season.
It was a good first win in Greater River Neuse Conference action as Garner held the Titans to a season-low 51 points, Stifling defense and an impressive pace kept the Trojans in the lead as dunks and layups in the open floor gave them their second victory in a row to move to 3-2 on the season. They’ll look to keep their winning streak intact when they face Willow Spring in another conference matchup on Tuesday night.

Scott had his best quarter in the third to push the Trojans over the hump to start the second half. He pushed the pace and was fearless in getting to the paint and finishing around the rim. He posted eight of his 10 points in the third quarter and forced steals and snagged rebounds on the defensive end. He was another tone-setter for their backcourt in the upset victory.
Reyes has been a name on the PH radar who continues to develop with his ability to score off the bounce and off the catch. He scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half and set quite the tone for the rest of his backcourt to follow with his presence on the defensive end of the floor. His energy was key in their victory as they went into a hostile environment to secure their second victory in a row. He’s a guard in the 2025 class to keep eyes on with Garner High,
Holmes was impressive in showing off both his athleticism around the rim and range on the perimeter. He posted all nine of his points in the first half and showed he could be a presence rebounding and altering shots in the paint with his length. He’s got a bright future ahead of him in North Carolina’s 2026 class.
Hines was held to just nine points on the offensive end of the floor but he still managed to be an anchor in the paint when he could. An early offensive surge from the Trojans was impossible for them to recover from. He managed to battle through foul trouble and finished with just four fouls, holding his own on the interior when needed. Look for him too bounce back in their next game against Clayton on Tuesday night.
Highlights
It was a rough offensive night for the South Garner from an all-around standpoint but Littles showed off his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter at volume. He knocked down five 3-pointers and paced the offense with 16 points despite the result. He showed he could knock down shots off the catch and off the bounce in his effort to keep the Trojans in the game. He’s another 2025 name in the 919 area for college programs to keep an eye on.
