Basketball doesn’t stop for the holidays, and I’ve made sure to check out all the competition and tournaments going down last week. Hairston has been a key to South Stokes success so far this season as the Sauras are undefeated and champions of the Frank Spencer Holiday Invitational. Hairston was named the MVP of the tournament after scoring 19 points in both the semis and championship game, as the Sauras beat a strong Mount Tabor squad. He’s strong finishing inside the arc, and has flashed a perimeter game to monitor as well. With an offer from Brunswick CC already, more schools should get involved soon.
Holt had a big time game for Swansboro as they improved to 7-1 on the year with a win over Jacksonville. He scored 20 points and tacked on 7 rebounds and 7 steals as well. He’s got a strong frame and is able to score at multiple levels, showing off his capabilities from deep with a three when he was left open. He rebounds hard and plays tough, solid defense on the other end as well. A name for schools to know in the 910 area.
Hamilton showcased an impressive trio of performances as his Weddington group came runners up in the Phenom Hoops Holiday Classic at Cox Mill. He poured in 30 in the championship game, along with 23 in the semis and 29 in the first round. The guard is one of the best shooters in the state both on the catch and on the move, and has shown an ability to make plays with the ball in his hands much more this season.
Highlights
Smith has continued to lead the way for Washington this season, as his group won both their games this week and he made a real impact. He had 17 PTS, 6 REB and 7 AST against DH Conley, and then added 15 PTS, 8 AST and 4 STL against Northside-Pinetown. He’s an electric downhill guard that has gotten really good at filling up the stat sheet, bringing an effort to the defensive end as well as looking to get his teammates involved. He excels as a playmaker and a scorer with the ball in his hands.
Highlights
Freeman had two of his best games of the year so far as Ardrey Kell continues to roll, scoring 20 points in a win over Porter Ridge and 24 points in a win over Butler. He’s a scorer that puts pressure on the rim and the defense, and knows how to get to the charity stripe. His 16 free throws over the 2 games were essential to his team getting easy opportunities in tight games. He sticks his nose in on the glass as well, knowing how to finish a possession for his group.
