We began with boots on the ground coverage of four games from day two of the Paul Loggan Memorial Invite and then made our way to the Tiernan Center at Richmond High School for the final two games of the 17th annual Bob Wettig Memorial Tournament. Let’s dive on in to five quick takeaways from the day full of hoops.
Lake Central is legit. The Indians came down to Indianapolis with a 7-0 record, but admittedly hadn’t been tested much by their schedule. However, they were able to knock off Pike and Park Tudor at the Paul Loggan Memorial Invite which should help capture the attention of some folks in the Indianapolis area. Currently ranked #15 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Super Poll, Lake Central should see theirselves move up now holding onto a perfect 9-0 record. 6’6″ senior forward Jake Smith Jake Smith 6'6" | PF Lake Central | 2024 State IN was the very impressive on Friday finishing with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Excellent small college front court prospect. Iowa Football signee Xavier Williams led the Indians in scoring with 21 points to go with 8 rebounds in their 64-57 win over Park Tudor.
Don’t sleep on North Central. We moved the Panthers into the Prep Hoops Indiana Super Poll a couple of weeks ago and that is proving to have been excellent foresight. They knocked off a very good Louisville Trinity (KY) squad on Thursday and then took down Evansville Reitz on Friday with Papi Rivera Papi Rivera 6'1" | PG North Central | 2025 State IN leading the way scoring 22 points while showcasing his elite shooting ability. Senior guard Tim Williams Tim Williams 6'0" | PG North Central | 2024 State IN added 18 points against Reitz. They have the pieces, especially in the backcourt, to beat anyone in the state of Indiana. North Central is now 6-2 on the season.
Evansville Harrison dropped one to Carmel, 60-46, on Thursday which was a bit surprising but bounced back to defeat Pike on Friday afternoon 72-63. 6’6″ senior forward Malachi McNair Malachi McNair 6'6" | C Evansville Harrison | 2024 State IN remains one of the best small college post prospects available. He is a double-double machine and turned in another one against the Red Devils finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Shane Sims didn’t disappoint either as he finished with 17 points and 5 assists. When he is open from beyond the arc you can go ahead and mark down the points.
Jack McKinsey Jack McKinsey 6'3" | SG Greensburg | 2025 State IN had himself a great night, or more specifically a great second half, to lead Greensburg to a 51-48 win over Tindley in the third place game of the Bob Wettig Memorial Tournament at Richmond High School. The junior guard finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Pirates.
The Richmond Red Devils are going to be very, very hard to beat. They have some many players who can handle the ball, they are unselfish, and they are playing a disciplined brand of basketball under head coach Billy Wright. Braiden Hogg Braiden Hogg 6'1" | PG Richmond | 2024 State IN led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points off of the bench while Cedric Horton Cedric Horton 6'4" | SG Richmond | 2025 State #321 Nation IN and Julien Smith Julien Smith 5'10" | PG Mount Vernon (Fortville) | 2026 State IN each added 11 points for the Red Devils. Mason Carpenter, who was named Most Valuable Player of the 17th annual Bob Wettig Memorial Tournament, had 9 points as did Ryder Cate. The Red Devils are 12-0 with no end to their undefeated run in sight.
