The event features some of the top local teams as well as a few from out of state. I was able to attend the event for the semifinals on Friday, Dec. 22 and here’s a look at some additional standouts I saw.
1. Styles Phipps – St. Marys’ (AZ) 2024
A recent Grand Canyon commit, Phipps has good movement on the court. He’s a good ball-handler with a good change of pace and able to get to his spots on the court. He’s a strong guard able to bump off defenders attacking the basket. Able to create his own shot and has a good pull-up jumper. Good playmaker who is able to balance scoring and passing/looking for his teammates.
2. Darrian Henry – Leuzinger 2024
Henry was a steady/solid point guard in the game I saw. He can push the pace in transition and he can run the offense in the halfcourt. Quick off the dribble able to consistently attack the defense. Able to hit the defense with a little floater when he gets into the lane. Good vision and good ability to find teammates.
3. Jeremiah Wilson – Serra 2024
Wilson is the epitome of a 3&D player. He’s a strong on-ball defender who keeps a good, low stance and does well keeping the ball-handler in front of him. Good three-point shooter off the catch. He’s an active player on the glass, puts himself in good rebounding position. A glue-guy type player who does a lot of little things.
4 Nick Welch Jr. – Rolling Hills Prep 2027
Welch did a good job being active in the paint and making himself available for scoring opportunities. He moves well off the ball cutting and diving to the basket. Good hands always ready to catch a pass. Has a nice touch around the basket. He hits the glass well, has good rebounding instincts and boxes out.
