The Red Knights made the trip into the city for a scrimmage against the Burrs. In the end, Reading came out on top. The contest provided the opportunity to observe how each team will try to play once the season starts. Here are notes on a few players from each team.

Reading

Yadiel Cruz | 6'3 G/W 2024

The unsigned senior played outside-in. Cruz scored in the paint on putbacks and post-ups. His two threes were a positive sign for his development too. He led all scorers with 20 points plus 3 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='2383207' first='Malik' last='Osumanu'] | 6'4 F 2024

I expected to see Osumanu excel as a rum-runner but instead he did so as a floor-spacer. His three-ball caught many off-guard and he kept firing them with confidence. He followed up with work on the glass and on defense. Osumanu totalled 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.

[player_tooltip player_id='2247350' first='Weshly' last='Rosario'] | 6'2 G 2026

Rosario didn't hunt for his shot. Instead, he got off by making plays for and leading his team. His effort as a rebounder was crucial. In addition to the dirty work, Rosario threw some nice no-look dimes and was a menace on defense. He racked up 8 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

Other Knights to Know

[player_tooltip player_id='1369624' first='Daquan' last='Burgess'] | G 2024

[player_tooltip player_id='2427273' first='Jeremiah' last='Camara'] | G 2027

[player_tooltip player_id='1195389' first='Nick' last='Chapman'] | G 2024

Wesley Peña | F 2024

Nico Sosa | G 2024

West Catholic

[player_tooltip player_id='2424028' first='Jayvon' last='Byrd'] | 5'10 G 2027

The freshman guard blended playmaking with shotmaking. He hit a few huge threes to pace West. He also made the extra pass when one of his teammates had a better look. Byrd out up 12 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2047551' first='Isaiah' last='Muhammad'] | 6'5 F 2025

Muhammad is known for his shooting and he did that, cashing in three threes (10 points total) to spark a comeback attempt. But his defensive rotations were noteworthy as well. He did a good job helping from the weak-side to contest and even deter shots in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='1888850' first='Jasir' last='Tyler'] | 5'9 G 2026

2 points, 2 assists, and 2 steal doesn't look great on paper, but that's not the whole story. Tyler unselfishness attacked the basket in order to force the defense to rotate, so that he could get someone else a good shot. He also handled the ball well against Reading's press and played aggressive on-ball defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1486773' first='Saaid' last='Lee'] | 6'0 G 2025

[player_tooltip player_id='2492465' first='Jah' last='Sabb'] | 5'10 G 2026
