There were some upsets to be had, and some blowout victories, but regardless of results, let’s take a look at some athletes who made their names known.
Elijah was cooking for Katy Jordan in their Friday afternoon game against Aldine. Black finished the game with 20 points on 8/12 from the field. Despite struggling from the 3 point line throughout the contest, Black dished out 6 assists as well and came down with 4 rebounds on both ends. Elijah showed us a bit of what makes him an underrated point guard in the 2025 class, showcasing a combination of speed, agility, and finishing ability to help Jordan to an 85-40 season opening win.
Highlights
BJ Davis-Ray
BJ Davis-Ray
BJ was one of the more dynamic players on display during Friday night’s primetime game against Seven Lakes. Davis-Ray had 18 points on 6/9 shooting and 6/8 from the free throw line in the 79-73 victory for the Panthers. BJ used his size to his advantage on the perimeter, using his height and weight advantage to take his opponents to the rim and grab 9 rebounds as well, finishing several buckets with a dunk or putback off a missed shot. BJ also showed his ability to pass the basketball, setting up his teammates for easy shots with 4 assists in the contest.
Kayden was a big time shooter in Duncanville’s clutch win over Seven Lakes on Friday evening. Edwards shot the lights out from three point range, going 4/9 from long distance and 7/13 from the field total as well as draining all 4 of his foul shots for a total of 22 points. Kayden showed great quickness in the transition game, never afraid to pull the trigger and shoot over the opposing defender for a quick jumper. We got a glimpse of Kayden’s great floor vision this summer as he lit up the scoreboards for Nike Proskills EYBL and it appears he has continued his momentum heading into school basketball.
Jaden was a key player in the backcourt of Katy Jordan’s blowout victory over Aldine on season opening night. Holt finished the game with 19 points on 8/10 shooting, and hit 2/3 from deep three point range. Holt is a smart player who knows how to fill up the stat sheet, dishing 6 assists and only obtaining 1 turnover during the course of the game. Jaden is a patient player who always knows where his teammates will be on the floor dishing out 6 assists, setting them up for easy points in the flow of the offense or transition. Holt and teammate Elijah Black Elijah Black 6’0″ | PG Katy Jordan | 2025 State TX combine to form one of the best 2025 backcourts in the city of Houston. Look for Katy Jordan to keep up this impressive level of play.
Bryson was a huge scoring option in Summer Creek’s Saturday morning game against Bellaire and ended the contest with 28 points and 10 rebounds, notching a huge double-double in the Bulldogs season opening game. Even through constant physical defense, Wheatfall showcased his playmaking ability and scoring prowess, driving to the rim against the defense and finishing with ease, even in the face of the defense. Bryson is easily one of the best 2025 guards in Houston, has improved his game throughout the summer into the year and only continues to solidify his case for one of the most dynamic players in Houston, if not in Texas for his class.
