This division has a lot of guards to choose from who should make it a tough call at the end of the year. But for now, these are the names at the top of my preseason list who could perform well enough to lay claim to All-State selections when all is said and done.
First Team
A contender for 4A Player of the Year, Hennig leads one of the 4A title favorites and has shown no reason to doubt his worthiness of inclusion on this list. He’s a dynamic scorer, he’s tough and gritty at the rim, and shows an excellent motor on the defensive end. He’ll be a player to watch all season long and should lead Mt Si to another deep state tournament run.
The long combo forward is an active, efficient player who’s shown some more bounce and power around the rim this summer. He’s an excellent rebounder, especially on the offensive glass, runs the floor hard, and is great at getting open off the ball. He’s a big reason why Tahoma has to be in the discussion for the 4A title this season.
Sandberg takes the reigns as one of the senior leaders on this Gonzaga Prep team and has the type of steady offensive output to be a calming force for his squad. He’s strong on the attack, can make a living out of the mid-range, and plays with a good mix of aggression and patience that helps him get to the line time and again.
The junior guard looks ready to have a big season and propel Camas to that next level this winter. They worked their way to a sixth-place finish last season but with his firepower they have a shot to go even further this year. He’s got a ton of go-to moves to free up space for the jumper or get to the hoop and has the green light to set the pace for the Papermakers.
The strong combo-forward is too much for many wings and interior players. He attacks the glass with a vengeance, has a quick first step from the perimeter or the low post, and is always a lob threat. It’s not just his athleticism that gives him the edge but also his tireless work in the paint and he could be one of the key guys that pushes Mt Si over that hump to finally claim the 4A title.

Second Team
A slick, crafty guard, Hernandez attacks angles at the hoop to score over bigger defenders, can light it up from long-range, and can set things in motion from the point to move the ball around a balanced Davis team. He’s got some ability defensively too, with quick hands and some moxie on the perimeter. I like Davis to make a run this winter and he’s a big reason why.
Woodard is a blur on the court, always playing with his hair on fire and showing an ability to get buckets from every level. He makes the Richland offense go and just keeps attacking all game long. He was the MCC MVP last season and should build on that this year.
The Wildcats guard packs a punch in his game. He’s a tenacious on-ball defender, has the burst to attack gaps, can shoot from all over, and could be one of the top assist guys in the 4A. His skillset plays in any game with his ability to make things happen defensively.
The Richland big man is a nightly double-double threat who defends the interior at a high level and should be an improved scorer this year with his touch around the hoop. He can establish position low in the post, has a nice hook to go over the top of defenders, and could start to stretch the floor a little more this year. He’ll be a key figure in Richland’s push toward the state tournament.
One of the marquee shooters in the state, Dress has deep, easy range, and will be counted on to score in a lot of ways this season. He’ll also need to be a big rebounder, something he’s shown good progress in this summer. He could end up near the top of the scoring list with his ability to rack up the treys, and will make Kamiakin a competitive team yet again this winter.
