Expert Analysis
Greg Stein | Prep Hoops Scout
Dalton had 27 points and at least 10 rebounds on Tuesday night as Tahoma (WA) was able to down Orange Lutheran (CA) in their opening round matchup. Brown was all over the glass at both ends as he created a bounty of second chance opportunities for the Bears and showed a great finishing touch around the basket. He also showed an ability to shoot from the perimeter as he was able to take advantage of bigger defenders who gravitate towards the basket.

Brown came up big for Tahoma, dropping 30 points to pace the team in a victory over Emerald Ridge. He’s another longer kid that was able to use excellent body control, stopping on one foot, staying balanced, and was able to either let defenders blow past or draw some contact from trailing defenders and get to the line. And he was able to capitalize on those early trips to the stripe, knocking in a high percentage of free ones. He’s a guy that can wear down defenders, constantly attacking the glass, cleaning up misses, and uses a long, quick first step to get around the first defender. He was killing defenders with his baseline drives and just seemed to always get the edge to turn the corner.

Brown didn’t take a ton of jumpers on the day, but when he did, he was finding bottom. It’s a key part of his development and taking his game to the next level. He did his thing around the hoop, racking up boards and continually finding space to make cuts into open areas, as well as using his strength to drop in contested buckets. If he can continue to improve the outside shot, he will really rise up the ranks and round out his game.

Prev Rank: 69 (+18)rnBrown is one of the best in his class at hunting down offensive rebounds and using a quick jump, long arms, and deft touch, to clean up all sorts of shots off the rim. I’ve said it before, but he just a guy that seems to always find himself in the right spots. Call it intuition, instinct, good court awareness, Brown has it. He’s been improving his ability to take guys off the dribble and shoot the three, making him more of a well-rounded threat offensively.

Dalton “Bus Stop” Brown
Brown continues to lead the Tahoma Bears in scoring, this time going for 21 points against the Sumner Spartans. The thing about Brown’s game that dumbfounds me is his ability to always be in the right spot at the right time. He times his cuts, reads the ball, and finds space around the rim for easy buckets time and again. He was also a big factor on the offensive boards and is a high-percentage player in close, making sure to make every bunny count. He’s an absolute hunter near the rim and finished the game with eight consecutive makes from 2-point land. Brown also made some nice contributions defensively, blocking shots and swallowing up smaller players on the perimeter.

leading the Bears. Don’t get me wrong, they have had many players stepping up into the fold this season, but Brown is putting in 17.5 points per game and seems to be getting better as the year goes on. He’s kind of a mix between wing and post, and he has a knack for following the ball and being in the right spot at the right time. The Bears have had some big wins already and look to keep this train rolling into the postseason.

Brown is leading the Bears in scoring this season at nearly 16 points a game. He’s long and wiry, active on both ends, and makes quick decisions with the ball. A lot of his impact seems to come around the rim for now, but he could develop more slashing skills in the future. For now, he uses good court awareness to find soft spots in the defense and acts decisively when a chance arises.
