Playing without star Alex Bruskotter Alex Bruskotter 6’7″ | PF Shelby | 2024 State #316 Nation OH , you saw Lantz taking an even bigger role and showed some flashes that he continues to build on from the summer. Improving as an athlete each time I watch him after a couple months, Lantz had some above the rim finishes through contact and rose up for some grown man rebounds. Combine this with his impressive shot-making ability and Lantz is a prime breakout candidate playing as a robin next to Bruskotter’s batman for a Shelby squad that should make a lot of noise in Division II.
One of the top defensive players in Ohio, Lawson is so disruptive when he’s jumping passing lanes and pressuring opposing ball handlers. Nobody caused more havoc on the defensive end at Lima on Saturday than Lawson and this led to transition opportunities for the Panthers. The big question for Lawson will be how well he shoots the ball from the outside and while he struggled off the catch, he made a couple rhythm jumpers off the bounce where he got to his spot and rose up. Holding a handful of mid major offers with high major programs monitoring his growth, Lawson is one of the top names to watch in central Ohio this winter.
When you watch scrimmage basketball there’s lots of sloppy play and teams trying to find themselves with new pieces. Turner has been a lead guard for a Pickerington Central squad that’s made back-to-back state championship games with Turner making big plays. That experience was on full display on Saturday as Turner was knocking down shots efficiently and playing at his own pace. Combine that with some impressive on ball defense and there were few prospects more impactful on Saturday than Turner.
Recently adding some football offers after a strong fall on the gridiron, Stubbs was back on the hardwood doing what he does best. One of the more skilled big men passers in the state, Stubbs would punish teams for double teaming him on the block. Knocking down a couple jumpers and getting easy layups while running the floor, Stubbs was a bright spot for a Cleveland Heights squad that had one of the longer trips to Lima of the 18 teams participating.
I’ve only caught a couple 2027 prospects so far, but Henry appears to be one of the top ones in the Cincinnati area. A lefty wing guard who can really shoot it from the outside and playing with a feel that’s advanced for his age. The younger brother of Chris Henry Jr Chris Henry Jr 6’6″ | SF Cincinnati Withrow | 2026 CA-N who is a five-star wide receiver committed to Ohio State, Demarcus is an impressive athlete as well and a name to watch in Ohio’s 2027 class.
