There is a segment of Indiana High School Basketball purists that simply will never approve of kids and their families seeking different opportunities. While recruiting and influencing high school student-athletes to change schools for basketball-specific reasons is thought of as “not good” by a consensus of fans, there are always unique circumstances to each transfer that most will never know. More times than not, there are not the nefarious reasons behind a transfer that many people seem to want to believe. Sometimes it truly can be as simply as a family moving to a new place. In Indiana, with open enrollment, that also means that when entering a new area student-athletes have the right to choose the situation they deem to be the best fit. There are enough basketball powerhouses in every major metropolitan area that “recruiting” in the traditional sense doesn’t even come into play. The schools and programs simply recruit themselves based on the banners on the wall and the alumni playing in college and beyond. With all that being said, let’s take a look at some of the top transfers throughout the state of Indiana entering the 2023-2024 high school basketball season. We will begin with the greater Indianapolis area.
Book came to Indiana in the middle of the summer and immediately turned Westfield into a contender in Sectional 8 once again. The 6’8″ left-handed forward comes to the state of Indiana from New Zealand by way of Oak Hill Academy. He is a skilled presence on the offensive end with good footwork, a strong build, and the ability to stretch the floor out to the mid-range. Book is also a relentless rebounder. Immediately upon entering the state he vaulted into the Top 10 of our Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2024 prospect rankings and currently holds an offer from Evansville.
After battling an injury as a junior at Franklin Central High School, this 5’10” point guard put together an excellent summer with 94 Feet Elite and transferred to defending state champion Ben Davis to play his senior season. Flannigan is a talented playmaker off of the dribble that possesses the strength necessary to play through contact and finish at the end of his drives. He can fill it up in a hurry and controls the pace well in the open floor. Look for his college recruitment to pick up as he showcases his talents through a healthy senior year for the Giants.
One of the top prospects in Indiana’s Class of 2026, Hall had a huge freshman season for Tindley putting up 17.3 points per game. As a sophomore, the 6’2″ guard will suit up for former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague and the Pike Red Devils. Hall is a dynamic left-handed guard that is explosive getting to the rim off of the dribble. His athleticism allows him to create his own scoring opportunities consistently from the perimeter. Over the summer, he played well on the EYBL Circuit with Indy Heat and earned a Big Ten offer from Illinois.
Highlights
Kalala’s coming out party was at the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 250 Expo in late September where he immediately proved himself as one of the top Class of 2026 prospects in the state of Indiana. He is a super athletic and bouncy around the basket. That allows him to finish above the rim offensively and protect the rim at a high level defensively. Kalala will rim run, rebound outside of his area, and have a chance to be dominant defensively. Expect him to be an instant impact guy for the Cardinals.
LaRavia is a skilled 6’6″ forward that stretches the floor out beyond the three-point arc. He is a constant pick-and-pop threat while also possessing the size and strength to finish around the basket. After playing his first three seasons at Westfield High School, LaRavia will be at Pendleton Heights for his senior year. His ability to face-up and score from the perimeter makes him a unique front court prospect that should continue to attract small college interest this winter for the Arabians.
