Unsigned senior out of Southport is a high energy big man with improving skill. Has the size and athletic ability to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor. Big time rebounder and rim protector that changes ends of the floor in a hurry. When he gets two feet in the paint, it’s likely a bucket. He uses his size and physicality to his advantage well. Holds a list of NAIA offers that will grow as the spring and summer go on.

Bloomington North did a pretty good job of neutralizing the 6’7″ Kalala around the basket. However, you never have to question his motor and there is simply no keeping him off of the glass. The unsigned senior came in averaging 13.6 rebounds per game and he finished with 9 points and 13 rebounds as Southport defeated Bloomington North 52-44. Kalala remains one of the top unsigned senior prospects in Indiana.

Kalala’s motor always stands out first and foremost. That is especially true at these showcase events. The 6’7″ center from Southport High School was routinely whipping his opponents on the rim run. Most impressively, Kalala finished a lot of interior shots at the rim with is right hand which was good to see from the lefty. His mix of size, athleticism, and strength make him a very intriguing two-way front court prospect.

James is an active frontcourt prospect for IE D1 Indiana . He packs a mixture of strength, agility, and explosiveness into his 6’7 frame, and is able to beat guys with strength or speed in the paint. He was able to establish deep post position leading to some quick finishes down low, showing soft touch with the left hand. Also had a nice jumper from mid-range, catching around the elbow, facing up, and simply elevating to score over the top of his man. Showed a quick second leap to contest for offensive boards, and was able to move his feet to defend smaller forwards on the other end.

Nobody plays harder more consistently than this Southport High School big man. The 6’7″ left-handed center dominated the paint for D1 Indiana in what turned into a runaway 76-54 victory. Kalala put up an impressive double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds with 9 of those coming on the offensive end. His athleticism at the center position really stands out as well. The big man current holds offers from Marian and Saint Francis.
