Next up in the conference/league previews is the Minneapolis City Conference, a league once again won by Minneapolis North last season. The competition has stepped up recently though with Edison, Washburn, and Southwest all improving and become more consistent. South should take a step back towards where they were a few years ago as well.

Conference Commentary

Top Ten in State Potential: Minneapolis North, Minneapolis Edison

At this point the Minneapolis City crown is North's to lose. They have to be beaten before we go away from them at number one. And with the league MVP back (three players shared it last year and Rich was one of them) as a main scoring option (Zashon Rich), with a big in [player_tooltip player_id='1293943' first='Jordan' last='Hurd'], and a ball handler in Allen Hill, North is still in a good spot to go for that league title. They did lose a huge senior class of players that won a lot of games so there are a number of spots to fill. Edison is in AAA and while they were just 7-5 last year in league play, they did win 20 games and they do bring back their top two players (Taylor and Ayala) who are both returning all league talents.

Compete with Most: Washburn, Southwest, South

Both Washburn and Southwest are contenders for the Minneapolis City title, but they are also Class AAAA teams that will be in the middle of the AAAA power rankings and not likely to make the top ten. That said, they are both teams that could push to win 17 to 20 games this year and both have a shot at the league title. Jorgensen will be the most dominant force in the league plus he has multiple starters returning with him while Southwest has four quality pieces back themselves. South has Davis back, we really like the potential of [player_tooltip player_id='2364192' first='Romero' last='Walker'], and they got a solid transfer from Edison as well in [player_tooltip player_id='2248727' first='Jumarion' last='Weh'].

Rebuilding: Henry, Roosevelt

Roosevelt won four games total a season ago, they won four contests overall, and are a young group trying to rebuild. Henry won two league last season and eight games total. They are in a bit better spot than Roosevelt but still not quite at the talent level of the rest of the league from what we can tell. If [player_tooltip player_id='1284088' first='Avery' last='Wells'] is healthy and in the box score more than last season they have a chance to be better.

23-24 Minneapolis City Conference Predictions

Minneapolis North

Minneapolis Southwest

Minneapolis Washburn

Minneapolis Edison

Minneapolis South

Minneapolis Henry

Minneapolis Roosevelt

Preseason All Minneapolis City Conference

First Team

Zashon Rich of Minneapolis North (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1284167' first='Kyle' last='Jorgensen'] of Minneapolis Washburn (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1297887' first='Liam' last='Farniok'] of Minneapolis Southwest (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1612342' first='Deidrick' last='Taylor'] of Minneapolis Edison (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1434055' first='Poet' last='Davis'] of Minneapolis South (sr)

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1647832' first='Isiah' last='Ayala'] of Minneapolis Edison (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2364192' first='Romero' last='Walker'] of Minneapolis South (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1293943' first='Jordan' last='Hurd'] of Minneapolis North (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1434981' first='Mason' last='Dean'] of Minneapolis Southwest (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1284088' first='Avery' last='Wells'] of Minneapolis Roosevelt (sr)

Third Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1402519' first='Blake' last='Bergren'] of Minneapolis Washburn (sr)

Charlie Gustafson of Minneapolis Washburn (sr)

Allen Hill of Minneapolis North (jr)

Abe Anderson of Minneapolis Southwest (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2248727' first='Jumarion' last='Weh'] of Minneapolis South (sr)

Fourth Team

Kevaughn Fields of Minneapolis South (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1915644' first='Oliver' last='Shors'] of Minneapolis Southwest (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1617739' first='Eban' last='Lo'] of Minneapolis Henry (jr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1939214' first='Aedan' last='Padgett'] of Minneapolis Washburn (sr)

Daveonte White-Sledge of Minneapolis Henry (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1560875' first='Calvin' last='Peterson'] of Minneapolis Roosevelt (soph)
