Prep Hoops Florida is taking a look at the preseason all-state teams for the upcoming season. We have a lot of new faces in new places this season and are excited to tip-off next month. Here are some of the top players to watch for in Class 4A this season:
Anthony Knowles, A 6-0 junior guard that can score on all three levels whether it’s off the bounce or off the catch. Knowles plays with a high IQ and makes good decisions when he has the basketball in his hands on to shoot versus pass. He is very quick for his size where he can impact the game in a variety of ways where he can get his teammates involved. On the defensive side of the basketball, he is very active in the passing lanes where he can get steals which lead to fastbreak points on the offensive end.
Enrico Borio, A 6-8 senior power forward and Jacksonville University commit is long, athletic and can stretch the floor with good instincts. Borio plays at a high level whether it’s on the interior or when he is guarding out on the perimeter. His passing game is above-average where he sees the floor exceptionally well given his size and can play multiple positions on the offensive end. On the defensive end, Borio is very versatile where he can guard position 2 through 4 as his on-the-ball defense is still a work in progress. Really intrigued to see if Borio continues to get stronger this season before playing at the D-1 collegiate level.
Caleb Williams, A 6-0 senior point guard continues to display a ton of confidence on the offensive end of the floor, where he gains more consistency scoring from the perimeter. Williams also is dangerous on the attack where he can finish through traffic as well as being unafraid to get to the foul line. On the defensive end, Williams has grown to be more versatile where he can guard multiple positions as well as impact the game with his activity when guarding on the ball.
Christopher Washington Jr, A 6-7 sophomore power forward with a lot of growth left in his game as he has become more versatile when it comes to his scoring. Washington can finish above the rim as well as shoot effectively from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, he is very versatile and moves laterally around the perimeter as well as on the interior. Washington currently holds offers from Bethune-Cookman, Florida State, Stetson, Texas A&M and others.
Kymani Weathers, A 6-8 sophomore center is a viable threat to crash the boards on both ends of the floor where he uses his length to an advantage. On the offensive end, Weathers plays really well in the pick-and-roll where he finishes efficiently around the rim as well as scoring off the catch. His ability to expand his range and shoot from beyond the arc has also taken notice since the beginning of his freshman season.
Highlights
Christian Reid, A 6-5 senior small forward is very aggressive on the offensive end where he can be an inside-out threat with a smooth touch for his outside shot. Reid is long and athletic where he can rebound effectively on both ends of the floor where he can score off put-backs and lobs at the rim. On the defensive side, Reid plays with good energy where he can guard multiple positions as well as show quickness when guarding on the perimeter. His ability to jump passing lanes have continued to improve as well. Reid helped Mater Lakes Academy win their first state title in school history last season.
Tavian Cook, A 6-3 senior point guard is one of the most unselfish guards you will find in the state. Cook makes plays happen with and without the basketball in his hands as he uses his athleticism to get involved. He also has a big frame where he can score on the interior against multiple defenders using his length and strength to his advantage. Cook was named to the All-State Third Team last season averaging 18.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for Gateway helping lead the Eagles to their first district title in school history.
Julian Clarke, A 6-1 point guard and UNC-Asheville commit plays with a ton of confidence on the offensive end where he can score at the rim or from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, Clarke shows a ton of versatility where he can guard positions 1 through 3 with his athleticism and quickness. He continues to get his teammates better with his high basketball IQ and court vision where he makes crisp cross-court passes to open shooters. Keep an eye on Clarke as he is poised to have a big time senior season for Lake Highland Prep this year.
