As the high school basketball season approaches, it’s important to provide coaches and readers with a clear understanding of reliable insights into up-and-coming athletes, and that’s exactly what Prep Hoops Florida aims to provide in this series. So sit back, relax, and get ready to learn about some of the notable risers around the state.
2022 stats: 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 stealsrnOriginally born in Kenya, Ochan has made a name for himself in the Florida high school hoop scene since making his way down from Minnesota. A lot of moves made but Ochan has seemed to settle in as he averaged double-digit points per game during his sophomore season. At 6-3, he’s a speedy guard prospect that uses his athleticism at the rim to finish acrobatic plays. His aggressive and explosive mentality transitions to the defensive side as well, as he recorded nearly 2.0 steals per game as a sophomore.
2022 stats: 5.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocksrnThe 6-8 forward prospect has seen his paint game develop during the offseason with his pot-game taking a big step heading into his junior season. He has decent strength down low but it’s the ability to use his body frame and physicality to create separation and finish strong over defenders. It’s the rim protection that solidifies him as an overall prospect college coaches should get eyes on.

2022 stats: 10.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists rnKanicki made the move over to Carrollwood Day for his junior season but make no mistake, he’s been putting in the work this offseason. Just watch the film, he has a deadeye jumpshot from behind the arc that he uses it spot up sets or creating his own shot with decent handles and pull up game. As he continues to grow into his frame and embrace the physicality of the game, he will be a true scoring threat with a reliable jumper.
2022 stats: 13.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 stealsrnThis is a big-time senior season for Puodziukaitis as he led his team in scoring and rebounds last season. The 6-7 forward product has bounced back from a summer injury with plenty of time to prepare for a senior season that can generate some D1 college interest. He’s picked up a few offers during the offseason but will see an uptick with more dominating film. As for his game, Puodziukaitis is fluid for his size and can get up to finish powerful dunks if needed. He also can stretch the floor and work off the ball to get his jump shot going. Impressed with his overall game and upside for the next level.
2022 stats: 8.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.2 steals rnPiggot Jr. was effective as a freshman while showing off his good athleticism and explosiveness which translated well to the offseason AAU periods. He will have a much bigger role for SLAM this fall where he will be able to provide good scoring production and solid defensive output. He’s a fearless finisher at the rim with posterizer ability and quick twitch to finish over larger defenders.
