The event featured a strong contingent of teams from both the south and north regions of the state and some of the top teams from Arizona and Utah. Below are some of the top underclass prospects (freshmen and sophomores) we saw.
King Riley-Owens, 2026, La Mirada
The 6-foot-1 point guard was a dead-eye shooter from three-point range in La Mirada’s two games on Sunday. Riley-Owens knocked down perimeter jumpers off the catch, off the bounce and in a variety of situations including coming off of ball screens and when breaking down his defender in isolation. I liked the sophomore’s speed in transition and ability to change direction without losing a step.
Myles Wiggins Myles Wiggins 6'5" | PF Capital Christian | 2026 State CA-N , 2026, Capital Christian
The 6-foot-6 wing/forward is a bouncy slasher with a wiry-strong frame that allows him to finish over or through contact. Wiggins made his presence felt in transition where he glided to the paint and exploded to the rim for paint finishes. He was also an active offensive rebounder who used his high motor and pursuit of the ball to create second chance opportunities.
Parker Spees, 2026, San Joaquin Memorial
Spees’ intrigue as a prospect stems from his rangy 6-foot-7 frame and ability to shoot the three-ball off the catch. The sophomore is an elite catch and shoot threat from distance, moves well without the ball and has a great understanding of how to space the floor. It will be interesting to track his growth – both in his frame and as a basketball player.
Rider Portela Rider Portela 6'5" | SG Sunnyslope | 2026 State AZ , 2026, Sunnyslope (AZ)
Portela earned the compliment of playing like a coach’s son and it just so happens he is. The 6-foot-5 wing plays for his father, Ray, at Sunnyslope and you can tell he’s been taught the game well. Portela’s calling card is his versatility. He can play the point when needed because of his basketball IQ and feel, he can slide off the ball and create for himself and teammates and he can step out and knock down perimeter jumpers. Portela is also an explosive athlete on the break with good size and length for the position.
SJ Madison SJ Madison 6'3" | SF Redondo Union | 2026 State CA-S , 2026, Redondo Union
Madison continues his steady progression that we saw happening last season and over the summer. The 6-foot-4 wing is a strong and athletic slasher with an aggressive attacking mentality off the dribble. Madison’s athleticism is one of the most intriguing part of his game because he’s smooth, shifty and explosive at the same time and he uses those traits to get to the rim at-will and finish through contact or around rim protectors.
Zach White, 2026, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame
White was one of the best “glue-type” guys last season while playing alongside a handful of high level prospects. With two of them on to high-major programs, White’s role has increased significantly and two games we saw him in Saturday made us think he’s ready to take a major leap forward. White is a fundamental and efficient player whose development of the small details of the game has benefitted his overall skill-set. White is a strong, physical slasher and finisher who can step out and knock down catch and shoot threes, defend multiple positions and rebound out of his area.
