The event featured a strong contingent of teams from both the south and north regions of the state and some of the top teams from Arizona and Utah. Below are some of the top underclass prospects (freshmen and sophomores) we saw.
Chris Sanders, 2027, Redondo Union
Sanders closed out Redondo’s lone game of the event with a vicious transition dunk. When I asked coach Reggie Morris, Jr. about him after the game, and he told me he was a freshman, it was a surprising note because of how cool, calm and collected the 6-foot-3 wing played. I have a feeling Sanders will be yet another talented prospect to come out of the mentorship of Morris, Jr. and what impressed me most about him was the motor and physicality he played with on the defensive end of the floor.
Cristian Simmons Cristian Simmons 6'8" | PF Sunnyslope | 2026 State AZ , 2026, Sunnyslope (AZ)
The 6-foot-8 sophomore center has a lot of promise because of the natural tools he possesses at the center position. Simmons has great hands, footwork and touch on the offensive end and is also not afraid to mix it up in a physical sense with hard screens, aggressive pursuit of rebounds and welcoming contact inside. Simmons can knock down face-up shots from the mid-range level and his form trends nicely to him extending that range to the three-point line.
Darius Wabbington Darius Wabbington 6'10" | C Sunnyslope | 2027 State AZ , 2027, Sunnyslope (AZ)
Wabbington is the second piece of Sunnyslope’s impressive – but young – front line. Like his teammate Simmons, Wabbington has great hands, footwork and touch for his size but is more of a perimeter oriented threat at this point in his development, which isn’t a bad thing. The 6-foot-10 center can step out to the perimeter and knock down catch and shoot three’s with consistency. When he chooses to go inside, he uses his frame nicely to carve out space for high percentage touches or offensive and defensive rebounds.
Delton Prescott III Delton Prescott III 5'11" | PG Sunnyslope | 2027 State AZ , 2027, Sunnyslope (AZ)
Prescott is a savvy, smart and crafty point guard with elite burst and speed in the open court. His combination of quickness and tight ball-handling made him a guy who blew by defenders and got into the lane with ease where he created for teammates or knocked down a stop-and-pop mid-range jumper. Prescott showcased his high basketball IQ and was a low turnover guy for how much the ball was in his hands.
Elias Gish, 2026, Clovis North
Gish isn’t the type of player who will wow you with a dribbling exhibition or isolation scoring package but he impressed because his game is so efficient and within the team concept. The 6-foot-5 lefty is a smooth shooter off the catch from three-point range who can also attack closeouts with straight line drive finishes or drive and kicks to teammates. Gish is the ultimate high IQ glue guy whose role will continue to grow over the next couple of seasons.
