The event featured a strong contingent of teams from both the south and north regions of the state and some of the top teams from Arizona and Utah. In this piece we take a closer look at some players whose play helped raise their stock.
Amare Campbell Amare Campbell 6'0" | PG Etiwanda | 2024 State CA-S , 2024, Etiwanda
Campbell drew the eyes of the multitude of Division II coaches who were in attendance because of his combination of speed, strength and ability to get downhill and score in transition. The 6-footer has elite quickness in the half-court and his blow-by speed led to paint touches and kick-outs to open teammates or easy buckets at the rim. Perhaps Campbell’s best trait, and why so many coaches like his game, is his prowess as a disruptive on-ball defender.
Devin Ringer Devin Ringer 6'2" | SG Redondo Union | 2024 State CA-S , 2024, Redondo Union
Ringer’s transformation from an off-guard shooter to on-ball point guard and decision-maker has made for a big boost in his recruiting stock. The 6-foot-3 senior has great size for the position and has upped his feel and ability to create for teammates while still keeping his perimeter shooting near the top of his class in SoCal. His performance this season will be crucial for the level he is recruited at.
DJ Stickman, 2025, Clovis West
Of all the players in the gym over the weekend, none had the pop in their legs like Stickman has. The 6-foot-1 guard is an elite vertical athlete whose ability to elevate in space or in traffic made him one of the better transition and half-court finishers we saw. Stickman’s translatable skill at this point in his development is his ability to defend. He can guard multiple positions, protect the rim with his length and leaping abilities and disrupt passing lanes with quick-twitch reactions.
Drew Fisher, 2024, Crespi
The son of new Crespi coach, and multiple time NBA champion, Derek Fisher opened some eyes over the weekend. Drew, a 6-foot-3 wing/guard who spent last season at Sierra Canyon, made the most of his increase in reps and it paid off in front of media and college coaches alike. Fisher has great instincts on both ends of the floor, can slash, elevate and finish at the rim and knock down catch and shoot three’s when they come his way. Fisher makes his biggest impact defensively as a long, physical and versatile perimeter defender who can change shots at the rim.
JJ Harris, 2025, Windward
Harris is trending upward as he heads into his junior season. The 6-foot-4 wing has a long, wiry frame that is equipped with plenty of athleticism and coordination. Harris makes his presence felt as a mid-range jump shooter on the offensive end who can also drive by defenders for straight line finishes. Harris has great feel as an on-ball and team defender which bodes well for his recruitment.
