In this article, we’ll break down five prospects who competed on the Prep Hoops Circuit who made some noise at the Prep Hoops Ohio Top 250 Expo.
A prospect I’ve watched numerous times before Saturday, I actually think the first game on Saturday was the best performance I’ve seen from Smith this year. He was playing aggressive on the perimeter and knocking down a high percentage of the open 3-point shots that fell to him. Took a rebound coast to coast for an easy finish and had another impressive drive and score off an isolation move. His most impressive move of the day was an in and out crossover move to a righty finish at the rim. Look for Smith to try and build off this momentum heading into his senior season.
Highlights
Shane Garcia already discussed Hawley’s impressive performance from the Expo but I also wanted to show him some love as well because he was dominating the interior against some smaller competition that couldn’t handle him in the paint. Had a quick seal and turn for an easy layup after getting good position to receive a lob pass. Had a couple nice finishes on the block including an and-1 finish as well as a one dribble righty finish. A prospect who can get it going in a hurry, that’s exactly what Bartchak did on the last game of the showcase. Tough to contain in a more open run style at the end of the showcase, Bartchak can create shots for himself at a high level and has the range to knock it down a few feet behind the 3-point line. Knocking down 3-pointers off the bounce or catch, Bartchak was getting busy at the end of the showcase. Expect him to play a nice complimentary role for a Lutheran West squad looking to take the final step from runners up to state champs this year.
Solomon played with Gem City Basketball Club and made a couple nice moves in the one game I caught of his on Saturday. Had a nice post move against a smaller guard who couldn’t deal with him in the paint, Solomon then stretched out the defense to knock down a couple 3-pointers. Solid day for Solomon who is coming off a 10 PPG season as a Junior, expect that number to increase as a senior.
The last prospect discussed in this article, Rothwell was one of the top passers at the event and was setting his teammates up all day with timely and accurate passes. He even snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for his team as after being down 3-points with 15 seconds left, his teammate hit a 3-pointer to tie the game. On the inbounds pass, Rothwell flew in to steal it and finish an open layup at the buzzer for the win.
