Rebounding was an aspect where Lantz really stood out, using his length and athleticism to control the boards on both ends. With his high motor for rebounds, Lantz was able to grab and go to start the break as he’s a capable ball handler for his size. Consistently improving as an athlete, Lantz almost brought the house down with a transition dunk attempt that went off the rim. I expect a big senior season for Lantz and Shelby, as the Whippets have a lot of size and athleticism for a Division II team.
On the defensive end, Calloway-White made a big impact with a couple blocks by meeting players at the rim on layup attempts. Offensively, Calloway-White made decisive moves to the bucket and showcased a nice reverse pivot on a slash to a fallaway jumper. Knocking down a couple 3-pointers from both the wing and corner, Calloway-White shot the ball with confidence from long range. A prospect who gets better each time I watch him, I expect small college programs to be active in recruiting Calloway-White this winter.
Brown has grown an inch since I last saw him play and looks longer as well. This improved size and length allowed Brown to jump passing lanes and get out on the fast break. In transition, Brown had a couple nice righty finishes at the basket and can also knock down the open jumper when it falls to him. Playing at an up-tempo program like Sandusky, Brown had the energy to thrive in a fast-paced showcase on Saturday.
One of the prospects I was most excited to watch for the first time, Sommers didn’t disappoint on Saturday. The lefty has a high arcing shot that went in at a high percentage from the corner. With his size from the wing forward position, Sommers can rebound at a high level and competed on both ends on the glass. Defensively, Sommers gave good effort moving his feet on the perimeter and even blocked a jumper after a guard tried taking him in isolation. A nice small college target, expect Sommers to see his recruitment really start to take off in the spring and summer of 2024.
This was the second showcase event I’ve seen Kante play in and once again he impacted the game in the same way he did the first time. Very active defensively and light on his feet, Kante can force turnovers with his length, aggressiveness and activity on the defensive end. Kante also hit a few more open perimeter shots than I saw the first two times I watched him play. Really like the motor he plays with, should have a big senior season in the CMAC.
