Expert Analysis
Shane Garcia | Prep Hoops Scout
Sommers is a kid you want to coach. He has all the right qualities above the shoulders. He is smart, plays hard, and has great fundamentals and understanding of the game. He is a 6’5 wing who can spread the floor and knock down shots for your team. He has shown a good ability to put the ball on the floor when defenses close out too aggressively on him. He does a good job of getting to the free-throw line.

A stretch forward, Sommers has a sweet lefty stroke that can put up points in a hurry. Transferring from Spencerville to Bluffton, Sommers has continued to impact winning and has Bluffton at 6-1 right now. Sommers was a standout at the Prep Hoops 250 Expo and with his size, shooting and rebounding ability, will be a priority small college target.

Sommer has great tools for a wing. Listed as 6’4, with good athleticism he plays like you would want a wing too. He is a 3 and D guy. He can defend his tail off and he does that by just outworking the opposition. He has good footwork and quickness that allows him to guard a lot of positions. Then on offense, he is a catch-and-shoot player who can knock it down. He also is really good at finishing when the lane opens up. He is someone who only gets better too.

One of the prospects I was most excited to watch for the first time, Sommers didn’t disappoint on Saturday. The lefty has a high arcing shot that went in at a high percentage from the corner. With his size from the wing forward position, Sommers can rebound at a high level and competed on both ends on the glass. Defensively, Sommers gave good effort moving his feet on the perimeter and even blocked a jumper after a guard tried taking him in isolation. A nice small college target, expect Sommers to see his recruitment really start to take off in the spring and summer of 2024.

Sommers has what you need to be a very good basketball player. He is tall, listed at 6’4, athletic, and skilled. He plays on the wing and for his 6’4 height he moves incredibly well. Is quick and can defend a lot of positions. He has a wide frame too so I believe his already good build will only get bigger and stronger. If that happens and with his length I think he could be anything you need from him depending on your lineup at the next level. He handles the ball well. Takes defense very seriously, this is where his length and athleticism are on the most display. He seemed to like going to the basket more than shooting it but his shot looked really good a couple of times he did shoot. His finishing ability is extremely high. I think Sommers did show some timidness at times but I think once he realizes just how good he truly is, he will be a name college coaches will be talking about.
