Continue ReadingA powerful, physical, but graceful wing with a great feel for the game and tremendous passing instincts and court vision, Shadrick is a pass-first player who loves to get his teammates involved first and foremost. That said, he’s also a skilled scorer who can attack off the dribble and finish through contact at a high level around the rim, as well as step out and shoot it. He needs to add some more consistency to his jumper, but it’s enough of a weapon that it needs to be respected. He’s an instinctive defender who understands how to rotate and is a good help defender. He has transferred from Davenport West to Bettendorf and figures to be an impactful player for the Bulldogs this season.
Highlights
Another Quad City area player who has transferred, Hodges has made the move from Muscatine to Davenport Assumption, where he’ll provide the Knights with a dynamic athlete on the perimeter who can create off the dribble and play downhill. He’s a good wing defender who moves his feet well and uses his length to impact the game on that end of the floor as well as on the glass. He averaged 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists as a sophomore with the Muskies.
Jackson was good as a sophomore for the Knights, averaged 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.8 steals a game. He’s a big guard at 6-3 who can create shots for himself and his teammates off the bounce. He shoots it better off the catch than the dribble at this point, which may benefit him with the addition of Navon Shabazz Navon Shabazz 6’4″ | CG Assumption | 2026 State IA to the roster this season, potentially moving Jackson off the ball a bit more. He’s a versatile defender with the size to guard bigger players and the quickness to defend on the perimeter.
Schmeltzer may be a touch undersized for a traditional big man, but he is STRONG and he uses that strength and physicality to make an impact as a defender, rebounder, and interior scorer. He holds his ground well on the block, never giving up any space, and he really makes opposing players work hard to score against him in the paint. He rebounds well on both ends of the floor, making good, hard contact on his boxouts and corralling rebounds with his soft hands.
Washington didn’t get any varsity run last year for the Bulldogs, but he’s coming off a strong summer with the Barnstormers and he should be a role player this year for them. He’s a big wing who can stretch the floor, get his teammates involved, and he contributes well on the glass on both ends of the floor.
A point guard with good size, Edwards sees the floor well and does a good job getting his teammates involved and protecting the ball, posting a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio last season. He’s a capable shooter from deep but will need to add some more consistency to that part of his game. He’s a better shooter at this time off the dribble than the catch. He’s able to use his length to impact the game defensively as well.
Hoskins didn’t get any run on the Spartans’ varsity team last season, but he figures to be a valuable role player as a junior. He’s a long wing who can score from all three levels, create for his teammates, and defend multiple positions.
