Continue ReadingGalvin was really good as a sophomore for one of the best programs in 4A, averaging 13.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on 45-42-81 shooting splits for the Tigers. A tough 6-0 guard, he’s capable of filling it up from all three levels in a hurry and is also a talented playmaker who can create good looks for his teammates with his ability to break down the defense and get them to collapse. He’s one of the best shooters in the state off the dribble with unlimited range and a lightning-quick release off the bounce. He’s also a good on-ball defender who sits in his stance and moves his feet well on that end.
Highlights
Watters missed some time for the Sabers last season, appearing in just 15 of their games, but he was dominant when he was on the floor, averaging 14.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on 53% shooting. He’s a mobile, athletic 6-6/6-7 rim-runner who finishes really well around the rim, can occasionally step out and stretch the floor, and is a switchable defender. He’s a good playmaker who sees the floor well out of the post area and can get his teammates involved.
A versatile two-way weapon with great size on the wing at 6-6, Kirkpatrick led the Spartans in scoring (16.5) and rebounding (6.6) as a sophomore while posting 49-41-68 shooting splits. He’s still a work in progress in terms of shot creation and ball-handling, but he moves really well without the ball in his hands, has a quick release off the catch, and he keeps the ball moving. Defensively he can defend multiple positions with his combination of length and athleticism.
Highlights
Meyer is a really athletic forward who dominates the painted area on both ends of the floor. He’ll end up playing college football, holding a number of Division I offers, but he’s a really good, efficient basketball player as well, averaging 14.6 points and 7.2 rebounds on 71.4% shooting. He has soft hands and great touch around the rim.
Driscoll is coming off a sensational sophomore season at MFL MarMac in which he averaged 20.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 4.2 steals on 51.5% shooting. He’s a high IQ guard who knows how to get to his spots, and he’s a really good ball-handler with a great first step that he uses to blow by defenders. He still needs to add some more consistency to his jumper from the arc, but he has a really good mid-range game and is great at getting into the teeth of the defense and either scoring at the bucket or finding open teammates. His quickness is also a major asset on the defensive end, moving his feet and having a knack for jumping passing lanes.
Highlights
A lead guard with good size at 6-3, Manago is able to put constant pressure on opposing defenses with his combination of ball-handling, quickness, and physicality. He’s great on the glass from his guard position, pulling down 5.8 rebounds a game as a sophomore. He’s at his best offensively when he’s attacking the rim and getting the defense to collapse. He’ll need to continue to work on his jumper after shooting under 26% from 3 last season, but there are a lot of tools here to work with and a really nice frame to continue building on.
Meyer appeared in 22 games off the bench last season for the Golden Eagles and will step into a huge role this season as the team’s top returning scorer. He’s a big wing with great size at 6-5/6-6 who can score from all three levels and contribute on the glass. He’s an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on over the next few years as he steps into a much more significant role.
Lieurance is a big-time scorer on the wing who can really shoot it off the catch, burying nearly 41% of his 3-point attempts last season. He moves really well without the ball in his hands and has improved as a shot creator and playmaker off the bounce over the last 6-12 months as well. He should have the ball in his hands a ton this winter for the Cougars, who could be a surprising team in 2A, and expect him to play a more significant facilitating role in addition to his scoring. He’s a solid defender who uses his length well, rotating, getting into lanes, and contesting shots. Coming off a year in which he averaged 18.1 points on 49-41-82 splits, he’s primed for a huge junior year.
Johnson is an explosive athlete who can jump out of the gym, and his pogo-stick legs are used to control the glass on both ends of the floor. He averaged 6.6 points and 4.3 rebounds a game last season (2.1 offensive). He’s a good finisher around the rim with a great second jump that he uses to outleap opposing players for boards.
An athletic wing with good size and length at 6-4, Smith can attack the rim and finish at a high clip as well as create looks for his teammates. He averaged 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists a game as a sophomore for the River Kings and should have the ball in his hands a ton this winter.
