There’s always a few that will get overlooked at these type of showcase events, but still played well. Here’s some of our 2024’s who we thought played well.
Marcel Pierre-Louis 6’7 Head-Royce: He’s a strong physical prospect who can effect the game working in the post. He has a solid body to bang with most on the the defensive side of the ball. He’s an excellent rebounder and court runner. Offensively he can be hard to guard in the post with his aggressive play, powering up off two, and hitting paint jumpers. He handles in transition, passes well. He’ll knock down 3’s on occasion. He’s a bit under the radar, but very productive. He’s a double double at this level.
AJ Morgan 6’3 De La Salle: He plays hard around the basket on both ends. Standing 6’3 he’s physically strong enough to bang bodies with bigger post players, he doesn’t shy away from contact. He has good power going up off two feet, and makes good use of his body for rebounds and points in the paint. He’s improved his ball handling and passing, he sets solid screens to free up shooters, he can hit the paint jumper.
Armon Naweed Armon Naweed 6'7" | SG Modesto Christian | 2024 State CA-N 6’7 Modesto Christian: He’s a transfer from Kimball. The last time we saw him he shot the ball well from behind the 3pt line. He didn’t have that kind of success at this event, but he did make some, nonetheless he’ll get plenty of opportunities with his new team to show he can knock down 3’s from the corners, wings ,and coming down in transition. He’s a good court runner. At 6’7 he has size and lengthy arms to close out on shooters, and help with rebounding.
Miles Diallo 6’0 California: He’s a quality guard we saw a few weeks ago. He shows speed, and quality handles to go by defenders in transition, and to generate buckets in different ways. He’s capable of running the offense up top with good vision and passing skills. He was quick on the dribble getting into the paint for jumpers, and floaters, he can attack from different angles. He hit 3’s from the corners and coming down in transition. He’s on the Wright’s Watch List.
Cameron Johnson 6’2 Liberty: He had a good day one shooting the basketball and showing his overall ability to play on both ends. He cooled off a bit on Sunday, but still shows us he’s a player that can finish drives to the basket and good in transition. He’s a shooter that has to be accounted for behind the 3pt line if he gets it going. At 6’2 he’ll get rebounds, defend on ball with speed and lateral movement.
Nick Paniccia 6’5 Bellarmine College Prep: We saw him on Saturday only. He’s a perimeter player that moves and cuts without the ball. He made good passes, no wasted dribbles. He had good ball fakes and a jab step to get defenders moving. He has good form, can use a dribble or two for mid-range jumpers. He can spot up around the perimeter looking to knock down 3’s. We’ll see more of him.
Gregory Tom 6’0 2024 Dougherty Valley. He’s a high IQ combo guard who doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, he doesn’t force shots, makes the extra pass. He handles and sees the court in transition making the long pass up court. He has a good shot off the dribble, spotting up behind the 3point line, and he hit 3’s in transition.
Isaiah Smith Isaiah Smith 6'1" | CG Freedom | 2024 State CA-N 6’0 2024 Freedom: He had good play on day one. He’s a speedy guard with good strength, and intensity, he gives good effort on both ends of the court. He’s a good ball handling guard that goes hard in transition, and into the paint, he handles contact. He’s a good on ball defender with speed and lateral movement to stay in front of ball handlers full court.
