Throughout the week, I’ll be spotlighting various positions and classes who stood out throughout the event and move on to the pool of talented 2025 wings and bigs.
Marcus Jackson Marcus Jackson 6'8" | C John Marshall | 2025 State #161 Nation VA | John Marshall
Another local product who will leave the DMV area this season is Jackson, a 6-foot-8 lefty who helped Edmondson-Westside to the Class 1A title in 2022-23. Since the conclusion of the high school season, Jackson’s stock has taken off and he continued to prove himself throughout camp. His explosive finishes, natural shot-blocking instincts and ability to attack rebounds at their highest peak all stand out. He was determined to show off his shooting ability from deep and while he didn’t shoot it with the greatest efficiency, he has certainly become more consistent in this aspect.
Kam Wiley | Rock Creek Christian
When Wiley is locked in, his versatility and upside can be very intriguing. He’ll put the ball on the deck and create for himself in spurts at 6-foot-7 that demand your attention. He still needs to polish his handle and his overall decision making in those situations, but the skill is definitely there. He runs the floor with purpose, can grab-and-go after hauling in defensive boards and has a knack for winning 50/50s.
Riley Jacobs Riley Jacobs 6'8" | C St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2025 State VA | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Jacobs used the spring and summer to springboard his name onto the radars of colleges. He has good size and plus length at 6-foot-8 and is becoming more comfortable operating in face-up situations. He’s a capable shot-maker from mid-range and can also step outside and knock down three’s confidently with time and space. Where he stood out in this camp as well was his activity off the ball around in the paint and around the baseline. Penetrating guards would deliver passes into small windows, but Riley’s awareness and dependable hands allowed him to haul them in and finish on either side of the basket using either hand.
Bobby Montgomery Bobby Montgomery 6'5" | SF Mt. Zion | 2025 State #229 Nation MD | Mt. Zion Prep
Montgomery’s name has popped up in articles throughout the summer on a consistent basis and a lot of it has to due with how hard he plays anytime he steps on the floor. This time around was no different as he provides tremendous value on the defensive end with his blend of size at 6-foot-5 and bouncy athleticism. He’s no stranger to physicality either, which allows him to defend up a position and even some fives for certain stretches.
Akbar Waheed | Georgetown Prep
Waheed’s game has always been good to me because it is based off sound decision making. He has a good feel for the game as a ball mover or on drives anticipating how the defense will rotate and making the right basketball play. He was effective in the open floor with or without the ball and did his due diligence on the glass that helped close down possessions.
