Throughout the week, I’ll be spotlighting various positions and classes who stood out throughout the event starting with the 2024 guards.
Josiah Legree Josiah Legree 5'11" | PG St. Frances | 2024 State MD | Loyola Blakefield
This type of event is beneficial to Legree’s game when you consider his creativity and ability to supply electrifying plays whenever he has the ball. Whether Legree was throwing lobs to bigs in transition, burying three’s after creating space with crossovers or finishing in the paint with floaters, the 6-foot guard made his presence known. His instinctual timing while playing off-ball defensively led to deflections and run-out opportunities, which played in his favor when it came to impressing the crowd.
Dorrian Sands | Carver Vo-Tech ’24
Sands help put his name on the map in the Baltimore City Public School scene last year with a strong junior season and will be one that I check in on regularly this season. He’s a 6-foot-2 guard who plays moves well off the ball and puts himself in position for others to find for catch-and-shoots. Sands did a good job of finding his mark early and remaining efficient throughout camp. He showed good explosion and balance when attacking wild closeouts before knocking down mid-range jumpers.
J’Lin Brown J’Lin Brown 6'4" | SF Loyola Blakefield | 2024 State MD | Loyola Blakefield
Brown was particularly impressive in the drill portion of camp where he showcased his improved athleticism by flushing a one-handed dunk over a defender following a drop step on the block. It seems that with time over the last couple of months, Lin’s confidence has continued to rise and his game has improved as a result. He knocked down his share of three’s well beyond the arc in the game portion while proving himself as an interchangeable defensive piece.
Jaden Colzie Jaden Colzie 6'0" | PG Plymouth Whitemarsh | 2024 State PA | Plymouth Whitemarsh
What Colzie lacks in size he makes up for with craft in his attack and his ability to create space from his defender. A lot of rotating bigs’ eyes get big when they see the 6-foot guard get into the paint thinking they’re going to swat his attempt into the stands, but Colzie contorts his body and uses either hand to avoid the outstretched arms and convert tough shots. He’s quick with a tight handle and brings sound basketball IQ as a point guard who can mix up the way that he impacts a game.
