The event has become one of the top showcases in Southern California for the incoming freshman class. This season it’s the class of 2027. I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at some of the best point guards I saw.
1. Deion Lewis
Lewis was a creative passing guard. He has great vision and sees the floor well both in transition and in the halfcourt. He’s quick off the dribble and was able to consistently get past his defender and get into the paint. He’s a crafty finisher at the basket and can finish over length despite his size. He’s able to shoot from three-point range as well.
2. Kai McCray
McCray did a good job pushing the ball in transition. He can also slow the tempo down and play in the halfcourt. Did well looking for his teammates. Offensively, he was able to drive baseline and attack the rim where he could finish through traffic. Also able to hit the floater in the lane. Defensively he was solid on ball sliding his feet and forcing the ball-handler into difficult decisions.
3. Brandon Granger
Granger was a tough little guard who played bigger than his size. He’s quick and he pushed the ball well in transition. Good ball-handler who was able to attack the defense and didn’t have much of a problem against bigger defenders. He was solid on the defensive end too staying low and contesting jumpers well.
4. Bryce Fletcher
Fletcher was a quick and lanky guard who stood out for his ball-handling. He pushed the pace well, he kept his dribble low and he was able to play against defensive pressure. Able to hit the pull-up jumper off the dribble. He did well coming off screens either attacking the mismatch on the switch or hitting the roller. Used his length to crash the glass well.
