On Sunday afternoon and evening at Fishers High School nearly 200 of the states best Class of 2027 prospects came to display their skills in front of many of the most influential people in Indiana High School Basketball. This event is the premier way to get “on the radar” prior to your high school career. Over the next week or so it will become clear why we always say “nobody does content and event coverage like Prep Hoops Indiana.” With that said, here are the player evaluations from Team 19 of the 2023 Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
***With nearly 200 prospects at our event, our scouting staff (of three people) divided up the 20 teams to ensure that we could get evaluations of every player. However, as you can imagine, this is not the easiest task. Our staff watched each team they were assigned to for a minimum of one full game. There were some late player additions and walk-ups that threw a wrench into some rosters as well. This Zionsville High School product impressed with some of his physical tools and his overall willingness to mix it up amongst bigger opponents. Oguntunde is a 5’11” guard that showed impressive athleticism when he would crash the glass from the perimeter to help in the rebounding efforts. He was also effective in transition and when attacking closeouts from the wing. There are definitely some raw skills that were on display at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
A smaller, 5’8″ guard that showed some shooting prowess and toughness for his size, Noble was a productive backcourt piece at Sunday’s Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. He handled the ball well, cut hard when he was off of the ball, and wasn’t afraid to mix it up defensively against bigger opponents.
Highlights
Gowin is a small, 5’7″ guard from LaPorte High School. At the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase on Sunday he was able to standout be presenting some real toughness and grittiness as a smaller player. He handled the ball without turning it over offensively and would hold his own on the ball defensively. As he continues to grow and get stronger physically there are some skills that will shine through in the coming years.
Highlights
Durbin has a strong, athletic build that helped him be productive on both ends of the floor at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase on Sunday. The 6’1″ Richmond ‘ last=”] High School product attacks closeouts well off of the dribble, had tough off-hand finish at the rim, and crashed the offensive glass hard on both ends of the floor. There are some physical tools to work with and his motor stands out, especially at a showcase type event. He was an impactful two-way wing for his team throughout the event.
Highlights
This 6’2″ athlete from Greensburg High School is very long, athletic, and showcases some real long-term potential. Miller has good size on the perimeter and is incredibly fluid when running the floor or operating with the ball in the half court. He can make some plays against closeouts, has a smooth outside shot, and can get up and finish around the rim at the end of his drives. Definitely a name to remember as he continues to develop and get stronger.
Johnson was one of the more impressive prospects on Sunday in terms of physical tools and athleticism. He was carving through the defense in transition going coast-to-coast after rebounds, dominating around the paint when he would drive it, and was effective on the defensive end of the floor. The 6’2″ wing from Cathedral High School is such a fluid athlete and possesses some serious long-term potential. He had a very productive two-way showing at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
Highlights
This 6’4″ prospect from Western High School obviously has some good size for a freshman and he used it to produce some around the basket, rebound his area, and impact the game on the defensive end of the floor. Bangs can finish with his back to the basket and flashed some face-up ability as well when he was out on the perimeter. If he continues to get even taller and can keep expanding his game he will becoming an intriguing long-term prospect.
Highlights
White is a strong, 6’0″ guard out of Owen Valley High School. He proved his ability to play on or off of the ball in the backcourt as he handled the ball well but also cut hard and read screening action well. His ability to attack closeouts led to some playmaking opportunities and he more than held his own on the defensive end of the floor as well. It was an all-around solid performance for the up-and-coming athlete at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
This 6’3″ wing from Homestead High School impressed with his physical tools that paired well with good perimeter skill level. He handles the ball well for his size, was able to get to the basket and finish with both hands at the end of his drives, and looked fluid when shooting from the perimeter. Welker has the potential to be a three-level scorer that will only continue to get better on both ends of the floor as he adds strength. It was a good showing for him at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
