It is now August and on the southeastern Pennsylvania basketball scene that means it is time for summer league action. There are several highly competitive leagues (Chosen League; Check Rock League; etc.) that will be running throughout the final month of summer. All of them will provide tremendous exposure for the region's college prospects.

With that in mind, below is a review of the prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania who we believe will lead the region in scoring among guards during August.

[player_tooltip player_id='1189096' first='Jalil' last='Bethea'] – 6'4″ / 2024 / Archbishop Wood / [program_tooltip program_id='2078709' first='Team' last='Final'] EYBL / Shooting Guard: Bethea (23 ppg.; 43% on 3PAs; PCL POY) is an obvious choice as he is the premiere shooting guard in Pennsylvania (ranked No. 2 overall in C/O 2024). Back in early July at the prestigious Peach Jam tourney (SC) he averaged 18.6 ppg. (37% from three) and hung 31 points on New Heights Lightning (NY). Bethea recently narrowed his decision list to Syracuse, Kansas, Miami, Alabama, and Villanova.

[player_tooltip player_id='1123895' first='Chase' last='Coleman'] – 6'2″ / 2024 / Rocktop Academy / NY Rens EYBL / Combo Guard: In 2022-23 Coleman posted 18 ppg. while leading Plymouth Whitemarsh's to the District 1-6A championship. Coleman possesses impressive athleticism, a solid frame and can score at all three levels. His deep bag of isolation moves makes Coleman extremely difficult to defend. Plus, he plays with a swagger that is typical of scoring guards who post big numbers during summer league action.

[player_tooltip player_id='1608275' first='Jordan' last='Dill'] – 6'3” / 2026 / Germantown Friends / BW Elite / Combo Guard: Dill (1,000+ point scorer) has been getting buckets at the varsity level since he was in 8th grade. So, we expect him to continue that trend during August. In 2022-23 he averaged 21.5 points per contest and drained 59 threes. He rung up games of 38- and 35-points last season. Dill was a 1st Team All-FSL selection and will be a problem this month at summer leagues all over the area.

[player_tooltip player_id='1123910' first='Khaafiq' last='Myers'] – 5'10” / 2024 / Neumann-Goretti / NJ Scholars EYBL / Point Guard: Myers (11 ppg.; 2nd Team 4A All-State) has made a strong return from the knee injury that sidelined him this spring. At the Peach Jam tournament (SC) he averaged 12 ppg., shot 41.7% from three and scored a tourney high 23 points (3 triples) against Drive Nation. When he is not splashing triples, Myers is an ultraquick guard who can get to the cup in transition or the half-court. He is also a menacing on-ball defender who turns steals into easy buckets.

[player_tooltip player_id='1483181' first='Josh' last='Reed'] – 6'4” / 2024 / Archbishop Wood / Philly Revolution / Combo Guard: Reed's athleticism, impressive vertical and crafty handles make him one of the top open court scoring prospects in the region. Those assets will enable Reed (16.5 ppg. during HGSL play in July) to thrive in the up-tempo pace that comes with summer league contests. Reed's 3-point shot displayed significant improvement on the spring/summer grassroots circuits. That development now makes him a 3-level threat. He recently added offers from Drexel and Stony Brook to his pile.

[player_tooltip player_id='2235889' first='Tommy' last='Vaughn, Jr']. – 5'11" / 2025 / Phelps School / We R1 UAA / Combo Guard: Vaughn in new to the SEPA hoops scene as he played at Sanford (DE) last season. But, his reputation as a legitimate scoring machine proceeds him. In the half-court Vaughn can pop threes and get to the cup off the dribble. However, it is on the fast break where Vaughn really lights up the scoreboard. With his athleticism, speed, and insane hops, Vaughn is unstoppable on the break. Last season he scored a career-high 39 points in a win over Wilmington Christian (DE).

[player_tooltip player_id='1136565' first='Jake' last='West'] – 6'1″ / 2025 / George School / [program_tooltip program_id='2078709' first='Team' last='Final'] Red / Combo Guard: With his constant off-ball movement, quick trigger, deep range, and highly accurate jump shot, West (13 ppg.; 38% on 3PAs) is one of the most difficult perimeter matchups in the region. But he is not a one-dimensional player. West is sneaky athletic as well as fast, so he can get out on the break to score or distribute. Plus, West owns enough handles to get into the paint for floaters or creative finishes at the tin. In short, his skill set is tailor made for summer league action. West currently holds a dozen DI offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='991421' first='Ryan' last='Williams'] – 6'3″ / 2024 / Malvern Prep / [program_tooltip program_id='2078697' first='Philly' last='Pride'] UAA / Shooting Guard: Williams posted an incredible July circuit and followed that up with an MVP performance at last week's “A-Town Throwdown.” So, we believe that this attacking style guard will continue to torch opponents this month. With his elite three-level scoring skills defenders have no chance of stopping him. Williams has recently received offers from Iona, Hofstra, Northeastern and Columbia.
