Continue ReadingLewis & Clark held its annual Prospect Camp on Saturday, August 5, and we had the opportunity to drop by campus to observe. Pioneers head coach Tim McCrory and his staff and players spent some time teaching the game with drills before the participants hit the court for some 5-on-5 action. As usual, the registered attendees were from all over the United States, but there were a good number from Oregon. Here’s our look at our All-Camp squad.
Vashon Hardges Vashon Hardges 6'2" | CG Grant | 2024 State OR (2024 Grant)
With Hardges, it often starts with motor and effort and there was no shortage of that the entire time at camp. The rising senior was attacking the hoop on offense, getting after it on the defensive end, and constantly looking to push the ball up the floor. Hardges is now close to being a full grown man physically and he used his strength to overpower defenders to get to the hoop, but also showed off an improved touch from the perimeter. Playing both on and off the basketball, he found open teammates and made good decisions in transition. He would have been our pick for top performer from Oregon at the camp.
Quincy Scott Quincy Scott 6'5" | SG Grant | 2025 State OR (2025 Grant)
One of Hardges’ partners in crime this season at Grant will be Scott, who transfers in from Central Catholic, and he too showed plenty of energy on that Saturday. The rising junior was seemingly always around the basketball and was especially strong getting the defensive board, and then quickly turning to push the ball up the floor, whether it was finding his point guard or doing it himself. Scott worked hard to get second chance opportunities on the glass and finished well around the hoop.
Jacey Canalin Jacey Canalin 5'7" | PG Wells | 2024 State OR (2024 Wells)
As expected, Canalin was one of the faster players at Lewis & Clark and he certainly used that to his advantage. Whether it was streaking up the floor in transition or using dribble moves and a quick first step to create, it was extremely difficult for defenders to stay in front of him. His mid-range pull-up and floater in the lane were on par and he hit enough threes to keep the defense honest, all while doing a nice job of running the offense at the point. Defensively, quick hands from the rising senior as well.
Jackson Owens Jackson Owens 6'3" | CG Cleveland | 2024 State OR (2024 Cleveland)
Owens is the master of the mid-range, whether it’s the jumper or the one-handed floater off the glass, and he put those on display on the floor. An underrated athlete, the rising senior also used his strength, leaping ability, and effort level to create for himself and finish around the hoop and got a number of baskets on second chance opportunities and in transition.
Peyton Reyes Peyton Reyes 5'9" | PG Mountainside | 2025 State OR (2025 Mountainside)
You may be getting the jist that motor is the theme for this all-camp team and no one may personify that more than Reyes. As always, he was constantly around the basketball on the defensive end creating havoc, which led to a number of easy layups on the other end. On the offensive end, the rising junior did a good job of setting up teammates and hitting the occasional jumper to push the D for leaving him open.
