The South Dakota State commit is the top returning scorer in the state, regardless of class. A dynamic 6-1/6-2 guard who uses his blend of quickness, handles, and shooting to dominate games on the offensive end of the floor, he’s also a skilled passer (4.5 assists) who does everything for the Midgets. Don’t be surprised to see him averaging north of 30 points a game this season.
2.) 2024 Jack Miller Jack Miller 6'0" | PG Jesup | 2024 State IA (Jesup) – 26.0
Miller is one of the best shooters off the dribble in the state, a skilled marksman who gets the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the bounce and elevates into his jumper from anywhere. He has unlimited range and a quick trigger that makes it tough for defenders to contest. He’s a highly efficient weapon who posted 51-38-81 shooting splits last season.
3.) 2024 Preston Ries Preston Ries 6'1" | SF Monticello | 2024 State IA (Monticello) – 23.1
The future Iowa football player is a physically imposing force on the hardwood, using his blend of strength and eye-popping athleticism to dominate games as a three-level scorer. He’s dominant on the glass, skying above everyone else on the floor for rebounds, and he’s a relentless driver, constantly looking to attack the rim and either finish or get fouled. But that’s not to say he can’t shoot it as well, knocking down nearly 36% of his 3-point attempts last season.
4.) 2024 Dayson Leerhoff Dayson Leerhoff 6'5" | PF Pleasantville Highschool | 2024 State IA (Pleasantville) – 22.2
A long, mobile 6-5 big man, Leerhoff runs the floor hard and constantly gets easy buckets simply by outworking his defender. He crashes the offensive glass hard and is a good finisher around the rim. In addition to his work on the offensive end, he also showed that he can be a dominant rim protector, turning away nearly two shots a game last season.
5.) 2024 Mason Smith Mason Smith 5'7" | PG Chariton | 2024 State IA (Chariton) – 22.2
A 5-9 guard who uses his speed to his advantage, Smith is able to routinely blow by defenders and get to the rim for finishes. He’s also a menace on the defensive end, averaging nearly 3 steals a game last season, which certainly helps contribute to his lofty scoring totals. If he improved his 3-point stroke a little bit over the offseason, he could be a 25-point scorer this season for the Chargers, a team that should be improved.
6.) 2024 Ty Northup Ty Northup 6'2" | SF Louisa-Muscatine | 2024 State IA (Louisa-Muscatine) – 21.9
Northup is coming off a junior season in which he led the Falcons in every major category. He’s a strong, physical combo forward who can score inside and out, and he’s generally the most athletic player on the floor, which he uses to his advantage, particularly on the glass. He can absorb contact and finish through it at a high clip, as well as stretch the floor, posting 55-40-77 shooting splits last season.
7.) 2024 Holden Arnaman Holden Arnaman 6'3" | PG West Branch | 2024 State IA (West Branch) – 21.8
Arnaman had a great junior year for the Bears, posting 47-42-68 shooting splits and dishing out 5.7 assists a game in addition to his scoring. Then he went out and had one of the best summers of any player in the state, playing on a Kingdom Hoops team that made some serious noise on the new EYCL circuit, beating a handful of EYBL teams. He’s a quick guard with excellent handles and the ability to shoot it off the dribble at an extremely high level. He’s primed to have a dominant senior season.
8.) 2024 Max DeVries Max DeVries 6'2" | SG Red Oak | 2024 State IA (Red Oak) – 20.9
A high IQ 6-2 wing, DeVries uses his size to his advantage to score against smaller defenders, either by bullying them on his way to the rim, or by posting them up. He has the ball in his hands a lot and is able to get to the free-throw line a ton, finishing second in 2A last season in both makes (129) and attempts (168).
9.) 2024 Brooks Moore Brooks Moore 6'5" | SF Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont | 2024 State IA (Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont) – 20.9
A 6-5 high-flying wing, Moore loves to attack the rim and dunk on you, whether that’s in transition or off a catch on the wing and hard dribble penetration. He worked to expand his game last season, shooting it from deep at a 34% clip, not great, but good enough that it’s a weapon that needs to be respected.
10.) 2024 Camden Davis Camden Davis 6'5" | SF Hudson | 2024 State IA (Hudson) – 19.7
A talented do-it-all wing, Davis led the Pirates in scoring and rebounding last season and will be the focal point of opposing game plans for a team that will be among the best in 2A. He’s coming off a really good summer with the Iowa Barnstormers Black team in which he showed that he’s not just a skilled scorer, but also a talented playmaker and passer. A majority of his damage is done by getting to the rim or with his strong mid-range game, but his perimeter jumper is good enough that it needs to be respected.
