Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a closer look at the top 10 combo guards in the class of 2025...

1. [player_tooltip player_id='1447228' first='Jamarion' last='Batemon'] (Milwaukee Academy of Science)

Batemon has a flamethrower. He can make the case as the state's best shooter. Leading MAS to the state tournament, Batemon averaged 21 points per game. He plays more of that combo guard role in AAU. A plus-length prospect and emerging three-level scorer, Batemon has some incredible range. You simply can't go zone against this kid. He's also vastly improved on the ball, able to get into the paint and pull-up off the bounce. Batemon has that prototypical length and body control when scoring over defenders. His defense doesn't get talked about enough though. There's a lot of dawg in Batemon, who will shut down players 4-5 inches bigger than him.

2. [player_tooltip player_id='1371733' first='Juan' last='Guerrero Hernandez'] (Grafton)

An explosive athlete with tight handles, Guerrero Hernandez has a very high upside. When you look at his long, lanky body and consider how good of a leaper he is for that frame, there's no telling what Guerrero Hernandez could develop into down the road. Guerrero Hernandez averaged 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game next to a top 10 junior. Absolutely electrifying when he breaks down a defense or runs in the open floor, the 6-foot-4 guard is also adding an impressive mid-range game to his repertoire.

3. [player_tooltip player_id='1412881' first='A.J.' last='Bender'] (Lake Mills)

Bender is an all-around prospect and a leader on the floor. He's got excellent positional size at 6-foot-4 and catches a lot of people by surprise with how good of an athlete he is. Dunkers like this don't come out of the Capitol Conferences very often. Bender impacts winning as a tough defender, rebounder, facilitator, and hustle play guy. A lefty with a sweet outside shot as well, Bender averaged 22 points, seven rebounds, and five assists per game, helping the L-Cats claim a share of the Capitol North Conference. Moving up to the Under Armour Circuit in the spring, Bender got better and better against high-level competition.

4. [player_tooltip player_id='1272671' first='Anthony' last='Rise'] (Brookfield Central)

One of the state's best 3-point and even mid-range shooters, Rise can fill it up from just about anywhere. He's equally good off the catch and pulling up off the dribble. Going for 13 points and two assists as a sophomore, Rise shot a whopping 51.2 percent from downtown, connecting on 43 triples. Although he's a little undersized, Rise was still able to shoot above 50 percent from the field.

5. [player_tooltip player_id='1390442' first='Agape' last='Keys Jr.'] (Milwaukee Academy of Science)

A two-way player and unselfish prospect, Keys is very underrated. He plays with so much talent at MAS that he can get overlooked, but I guarantee his coaches and teammates appreciate what he does. Keys is going to make the right play with the basketball, knock down his open shots, and can defend the other team's best guard/wing. Helping the Novas get to the state tournament, Keys chipped in with 11 points and three rebounds.

6. [player_tooltip player_id='1544729' first='Zack' last='Orr'] (Rice Lake)

Like his brother, Orr is a deadly shooter with quick handles and burst on the ball. He's very tough to stay attached to as a defender and has a lightning quick release. Orr averaged 13 points and three assists per game during his sophomore campaign. A threat as soon as he crosses halfcourt, Orr has extended range from distance. Given his blow-by ability on the ball and willingness to work through screens off the ball, Orr is a headache for defenders.

7. [player_tooltip player_id='1544740' first='Aiden' last='Hawkinson'] (Waupun)

An all-around guard who impacts various parts of the game, Hawkinson posted 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game last season. Good combination of size and skill at 6-foot-2. Solid, reliable, and sometimes fire 3-point shooter that has well over 100 makes over his first two seasons on varsity. Hawkinson displays a lot of confidence in his playmaking and ability to break down a defense.

8. [player_tooltip player_id='1289062' first='Baraka' last='Makalin'] (Stevens Point)

Coming off injury, Makalin could be a sleeper on this list. He impressed as a freshman for SPASH, but it's been a while since we've seen him at full strength. As a freshman, Makalin appeared poised beyond his years. Eager to see what he does for a bounceback.

9. [player_tooltip player_id='1481177' first='Tyler' last='Haney'] (Sun Prairie West)

A strong, athletic guard with a downhill mentality, Haney plays the game at a different tempo. He likes to get up and down and relentlessly attack the rim. Haney was at 10 points per game as a sophomore, helping SPW go 15-8 in their inaugural season. Good size at 6-1/6-2 with some added physical strength when he gets deep in the paint.

10. [player_tooltip player_id='1456954' first='Riley' last='Mueller'] (Hortonville)

Mueller averaged 11 points and three assists per game as a sophomore for Hortonville. A smart guard who can go get his own buckets, but also penetrate into high percentage areas, force defenses to shift, and make plays for others, Mueller showed ability to run and carry a team over the summer. Think you can play him off the ball a little bit too and let him hunt shots.
