The biggest Ohio stock-riser from the event, Moore had multiple dominant games with his ability to efficiently score in the paint. Able to stretch out slower bigs and attack off the bounce while also using his size and comfort around the hoop to score at the rim. The pick and roll was another area where Moore found a lot of success, with the guards on his team able to draw switches or hedges off the bounce, Moore reaped the rewards with roll finishes to the hoop.
The most dominant defensive player from Ohio at the event, Kuany was really seeing his defensive impact shown. Able to move his feet on the perimeter and switch onto guards while also protecting the rim, it’s tough for prospects of any size to score on Kuany. Having at least three or four blocks in one half in a game I caught, Kuany was erasing looks at the rim and even tipped a jumper as well. Offensively, Kuany has a ways to go with his touch and hands but his athleticism allowed him to grab offensive rebounds and dunk at the rim. Also flashing the 3-point shot, Kuany is not a guy you can leave wide open and expect him to not make you pay.
Lewis had an impressive week with his ability to create for himself off the bounce and knock down pull-up jumpers. Without the athleticism or size to get all the way to the rim in the half-court, Lewis did a good job of hitting mid-range and floater type shots that showed off his touch. Defensively, Lewis also competed and helped cause a few turnovers to allow his team to get out and run on the fast break. A good week for Lewis who will look to lead Worthington Kilbourne as he’s half of one of the top senior guard duos in central Ohio with Aidan Gallogly Aidan Gallogly 6’3″ | SF Worthington Kilbourne | 2024 State OH .
One of the few committed prospects in the individual pathway division, Powell was aggressive in getting his shots up when he got to his spots. Transition was where Powell looked to leak out and often got fed for breakaway slam dunks. As a shooter, Powell is capable of running off screens and hitting contested shots without much time or space. Showing more ball handling and the ability to attack off the bounce this week, Powell is going to need to be able to attack closeouts with regularity at the next level.
The only non Ohio prospect featured in this article, Young was a standout all spring and summer for Midwest Basketball Club and has attracted a ton of low to mid major interest. With multiple mid major programs making it a priority to be at his games this week, his recruitment is starting to take shape with a few programs making him their top guard recruit, This week, Young excelled with his quickness and defensive ability. One of the best undersized guard defenders in the country, Young moves his feet and takes pride in his on-ball defense. For Young, going to a program that wants to push the pace and play up-tempo will give him the most success at the next level.
