Hoskins was outstanding in the Spartans’ blowout win over North Polk on Saturday afternoon, finishing with 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. A skilled 6-3 guard who can play with and without the ball in his hands, he scored in a variety of ways. He was able to get to the rim both in transition and in the halfcourt, showing excellent body control around the rim and the ability to finish through contact. He came off of screens and knocked down jumpers off the catch, and he showed that he can create looks for his teammates as well. A lefty who provides some serious offensive punch, he could be a key player for a loaded PV team this winter.
2025 PG Camryn Lemoine Camryn Lemoine 6'0" | PG Pleasant Valley | 2025 State IA (Pleasant Valley)
LeMoine was also excellent in the Spartans win, scoring 15 points and dishing out 5 assists. LeMoine is a typical PV guard – tough, scrappy, and he’s going to defend hard. He’s a really good on-ball defender who moves his feet and makes life difficult for opposing ball handlers. On the offensive end, a majority of his work is done via dribble penetration, putting pressure on the defense with his quickness and handles. He sees the floor well and loves to set his teammates up, and he’s a skilled finisher at the bucket.
2025 PF Jack Berends (Spencer)
A 6-4 big man with soft hands and good footwork and touch around the bucket, Berends was one of the few bright spots for Spencer in their loss to CCA, finishing with 15 points and 5 rebounds. He positions himself well defensively, rotating over for a few helpside blocks, and he runs the floor hard to establish early position or get easy buckets.
2024 SG Haiden Hardy Haiden Hardy 6'2" | SG Clear Creek Amana | 2024 State IA (Clear Creek Amana)
A combo guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, Hardy was one of the players I was most looking forward to seeing and he didn’t disappoint. He jumps out immediately, seemingly playing the game at a different speed than anyone else on the floor. He has great court vision, handles it really well, and has great footwork that he uses to finish around contact when he gets to the rim. He’s a versatile all-around offensive weapon who can get to the rim and score, find open teammates, and he has a solid jumper. He finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds in the Clippers win over Spencer.
2024 PG Redek Born Redek Born 6'3" | PG Norwalk | 2024 State IA (Norwalk)
Born was the top-ranked player in the gym this weekend, and he showed why in the Warriors win over Roland-Story, finishing with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. A smooth all-around offensive weapon with a tremendous feel for the game, he does some things on the court that few other players in the state are capable of. For example, hitting a ridiculously tough turnaround jumper from the right elbow, contested, and intentionally using the glass to help it, ala vintage Tim Duncan. It’s a shot I’ve rarely seen attempted by a high school, and he made it look simple. He never gets sped up, is always under control, and makes great decisions with the ball.
2024 PG Boaz Clark Boaz Clark 6'3" | PG Roland-Story | 2024 State IA (Roland-Story)
Clark was simply unconscious in the first half of the Norsemen’s loss to Norwalk, burying six 3-pointers (he made seven total in the game) en route to a game-high 23 points. It was without a doubt the best, and most confident, I’ve ever seen Clark play, as he was hunting shots and routinely knocking them down both off the dribble and the catch. A 6-1 guard who has largely played as a lead ball-handler and facilitator in previous viewings, he showed that he can fill it up in a hurry as well. He uses his length effectively on the defensive end, is a good passer and ball-handler, and clearly a good shooter when he gets it going.
