Delton was impressive in today’s narrow loss to Archbishop Riordan. The young point guard confidently got by bigger defenders with a quick first step and tight handle to make plays for himself and others. Prescott has a ton of time to grow and looks to have all the tools to contribute to winning basketball. For such a young player he sees the floor very well and plays very unselfishly.
Andrew played a great game today in Archbishop Riordan’s narrow victory over Sunnyslope. Hilman was all over the court making plays on offense and defense, utilizing his above average quickness, length, and understanding of the game. Andrew can score at multiple levels, but his playmaking ability is what sets him apart. He constantly stuffs the stat sheet with rebounds and assists and his propensity to rebound allows him the to have a big influence on the pace of the game.
Rider had a strong all around performance today for Sunnyslope in their narrow loss to Archbishop Riordan. He scored the ball at multiple levels, including through contact, and acted as one of the team’s main facilitators. Portela started for Sunnyslope as a freshman and looks like he will continue to build on that experience heading into his sophomore year.
Julius had a strong performance for St. Joseph’s today despite their loss to Millenium. He gets into the paint seemingly at will as he plays the pick n’ roll at an advanced level, and has great court vision to find teammates once he gets there. Price also has a very strong build for his age and is already an effective finisher in the paint with his left or right hand.
Brannon played effortlessly against Eastside Catholic today in Mater Dei’s 12 point win. He scored the ball at multiple levels, moved without the ball to great effect, and repeatedly found teammates for easy buckets in the half court and on the fast break. Martinsen also rebounds the ball with tenacity at both ends and defends with that same tenacity which is what makes a solid on-ball and team defender.
Owen took over the game in the 1st half for stretches against Eastside Catholic today in Mater Dei’s first round win. He was all over the court rebounding, moving without the ball effectively, and causing turnovers with steals and deflections. Verna plays very unselfishly and all of Mater Dei’s shooters coupled with their constant movement provide a ripe environment for him to rack up assists and find teammates for easy shots.
Brady played a terrific game today as the tip of the spear for Mater Dei’s defense in their win over Eastside Catholic. He caused havoc all over the court with deflections, steals, and intense on-ball pressure; his defensive ability combined with his passing vision enable him to convert the turnovers he creates into layups in the blink of an eye.
