I only got to catch a handful of games but still saw some good hoop and came away with a number of standout players. I’ll be back to check out more hoopers and already have a few more names to watch again next time I stop by, but for now, here are the names to know that will be at Auburn High School throughout the month of June.
G | Elijah Gillespie Elijah Gillespie 5'10" | PG Graham Kapowsin | 2026 State WA | Graham-Kapowsin | 2026
This kid is one of the most patient, confident ballhandlers and scorers I have seen this summer. He pairs a great handle with constant awareness and made play after play on Wednesday. He can hit you with a hesi and drop in a deep jumper, blow by you with a quick cross and then dump it off to his big man for an easy two, and makes some plays on defense with his IQ and quick hands. He could really burst out this winter if he continues like this.
G | Donovan Gill Donovan Gill 6'3" | SG Stadium | 2025 State WA | Stadium | 2025
Gill is a superior competitor and plays with a fire in his belly every time I’ve seen him. He can stroke the three and loves to hit from the corners. And when his outside shot is falling like it was Wednesday, he’s an extremely tough player to stop. He has the strength and quickness to dart inside and convert contested paint finishes, and really instigated a lot of action for Stadium throughout the day.
F | Dominik Robinson Dominik Robinson 6'9" | PF Rainier Beach | 2024 State WA | Graham-Kapowsin | 2024
One of, if not the top performer of the day, Robinson was nearly unstoppable inside and showed some really strong finishing at the rim, playing through contact and converting on numerous and-one’s. While the scoring was impressive, it was everything else he was doing from the post that really showed impressive growth in his game. He constantly reposted, swapped blocks, and fought for position. He recognized double teams early and made the decision to either split and attack or quickly pass out and keep the defense moving. He was also loud and assertive, calling for the ball when he wanted it and looking to take advantage of smaller defenders.
F | Adam Davis Adam Davis 6'6" | SF Tahoma | 2024 State WA | Tahoma | 2024
Davis just reinforced much of what I’ve seen in him throughout the spring, and that is the polish he plays with on the court. He never tries to do too much and quietly makes a huge impact on both ends of the floor. He’s fundamental, strong with the ball, and limits mistakes while picking and choosing the right times to attack or take chances.
G | Carter Hansen Carter Hansen 5'8" | PG Auburn | 2025 State WA | Auburn | 2025
Hansen has been off to a blazing start this summer, building off of an impressive spring season. He averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 assists at the Quacker Slam last weekend and continued that level of play in the games Wednesday. After blowing out Auburn Riverside, his Auburn team took on a tough Peninsula squad and Hansen wasted no time getting going. He sunk the first bucket of the game with a rhythm three near the top, then continued to rain in the deep shots while also putting on a passing clinic. He found guys in early in transition, off of action in the half-court, and was in constant motion off the ball to free himself up for open threes.
G | Luvens Valcin Luvens Valcin 6'2" | SG Auburn | 2024 State WA | Auburn | 2024
I only got to see a little more than a half of Auburn this week, but that’s all it took for Valcin to leave an impression. There were two things that really stood out; his passing, and his ability to be one-man fastbreak. He’s a great outlet passer, looking up the court after nearly every board, and puts a lot of pressure on defenses as the ballhandler in transition with his ability to finish or assist. But his ability to be a one-man fastbreak is sometimes a cheat code. His burst up the court is just phenomenal as he showed at one point, grabbing the board and accelerating up the court, weaving through three defenders before rising up for a big jam.
G | Carter Stonerock Carter Stonerock 6'1" | CG Tahoma | 2024 State WA | Tahoma | 2024
Stonerock did a lot of ballhandling and playmaking for the Bears on Wednesday. He’s got a quick first step, can put in some crafty finishes at the rim, and showed off some slick passing and vision for much of the day. He had one play in particular that was pretty incredible – grabbing a bouncing rebound and while still bent over, looked down the court and scoop passed a near full-court dime for a layup. He’s definitely an impact player and could be in for a really big senior season.
