With College coaches in attendance from big name schools including Boston University, Long Island University, and La Salle University. These electrifying 15u athletes did not disappoint. Over the weekend, we were able to see high-level playmaking, shooting, and defense. Let’s take a look at some of the exciting Virginia athletes that I was able to get eyes on.
Makai Howard
Makai Howard
Howard was able to beat defenders baseline consistently to get to the rim, where he showed the ability to finish through contact. On one play, Howard beat his defender off the dribble going baseline and finishes at the rim with an impressive acrobatic layup along with the foul. When off-ball, Howard did a good job of sneaking behind the defense and making backdoor cuts to get open for shots at the rim. He was also able to knock down catch and shoot three-pointers with confidence throughout the weekend.
Carter Forbrich
Carter Forbrich
Throughout the weekend at Marquee Hoops Virginia Jumpoff, Forbrich got things done on the defensive end in a variety of ways. He did a good job of moving his feet to contain opposing ball handlers as well as deny and cut off driving lanes without fouling. In the passing lanes, Forbrich was extremely active and anticipatory to pick off passes and initiate fast breaks to convert on points off of the turnover. On offense, He knocked down the catch and shoot three pointer with good form and was able to attack closeouts to create floater and runner opportunities.
Jay Jackson
Jay Jackson
Throughout the weekend at Marquee Hoops Virginia Jumpoff, Jackson did a phenomenal job of locking down the interior on defense for the Charlottesville Savages. He was able to block shots in the paint without fouling with good timing and awareness, as well as hold his ground when defending the post to force missed shots. Jackson also displayed his soft jumper as he knocked down a mid range catch and shoot jumper with ease.
Quron Sheikh
Quron Sheikh
Sheikh did a good job of keeping the ball in motion on the perimeter as he displayed quick-decision making by swinging the ball around the perimeter promptly to open shooters and identifying opportunities to attack and taking advantage without wasting time. On defense, he was able to disrupt ball handlers in the backcourt as he led a deadly trap that forced a ton of turnovers.
Isaiah Harris
Isaiah Harris
Harris attacked the lane with explosive burst off the dribble to blow by defenders throughout the weekend. He did a good job speeding past defenders in the half court and getting into the paint to make a play for himself or teammates. On defense, Harris was able to make good efforts getting out to shooters on the perimeter to disrupt shots and force misses. He also did a good job of navigating his way through screens and fighting over the screen if he’s clipped.
Ben Bolle
Ben Bolle
Bolle showed the ability to knock down catch and shoot three-pointers over the top of defenders’ contests. On the defensive end, Bolle switched seamlessly when guarding the perimeter, not allowing any opportunities for the opposing offense to score off of screens. Bolle also did a good job of anticipating lazy passes and picking them off to take the ball coast to coast for easy fastbreak buckets.
Landon Judy
Landon Judy
Judy played a high-level game throughout the weekend. Judy was able to make plays out of the high-low actions with his vision and playmaking skills. With the ball in his hands, he was able to beat defenders to the paint in one on one situations as well as draw fouls on the way and finish with contact. He had good offensive awareness and body control to put up shots as soon as contact is felt to draw fouls on the shot.
