We were in the gym Saturday for the BattleCup championship and third-place games on the 17u and 16u levels and saw plenty of talent from Southern California and beyond. In this piece we take a look at some of the better slashers we saw among the prospects on the 16u level.
Amir Martin Amir Martin 6'5" | SG Omaha Bryan | 2025 State NE , ETG Midwest
I really liked Martin’s feel as a cutter. The 6-foot-4 wing is in constant motion whether its on back cuts or a face cut when his defender falls asleep or ball watches for too long. With his strong frame, ability to stop quickly and on balance and elevate to finish through contact around the rim, he’s a tough cover and highly-efficient scorer for ETG Midwest.
Andre Gomez Andre Gomez 6'5" | SF Grant | 2026 State CA-N , Compton Magic
Gomez is a powerful athlete who thrives in transition and open court settings. The 6-foot-4 lefty is always looking to push the pace and is quick to be the first to break out and put pressure on the rim on the break. Gomez can elevate and finish over rim protectors and above the rim but also has the touch and body control to contort his body and finish around defenders.
Brian Amuneke, Dream Vision
Amuneke is another guy who can really get out and fill the lane in transition to slash his way for finishes at the rim but he also excels in the half-court setting as a cutter and interior scorer. Amuneke is a good defensive rebounder who cleans the glass and can push the break himself and is a tough guy to stop when he gets a full head of steam due to his shiftiness and ability to stay on balance and score at the cup.
Jasir Rencher Jasir Rencher 6'6" | SF Archbishop Riordan | 2025 State #77 Nation CA-N , Team Lillard
Rencher is one of the top overall prospects in Northern California and it was easy to see why. The 6-foot-5 wing has the prototypical body type that you look for in a next level three-man but its more about what he does with those physical tools that lands him on this list. Rencher is a multi-positional defender who can really slide his feet, keep offensive players in front, and used his length well when applying pressure and making the ball handler uncomfortable. The Archbishop Riordan-product is a guy who is an aggressive attacker of the basket and is always looking to finish with power at the rim.
