Earlier we started our look at the 55 faces of 15u, based on the games and players that I was able to see at the event. Welcome to Part 2 and check out the athletes that left an impression over the weekend!
Obermeyer definitely caught my eye with his play at The Stage. He was strong and athletic and first flaunted a nice jumper with 3 point range. Obermeyer also showed the ability to attack the rim and see the floor while on the move, which gave him the ability to drive and dish.
Highlights
Julius Rusk
Julius Rusk
Rusk was a flat out beast when I saw him play. He was so strong, especially with the ball in his hands. Rusk could simply bulldog opponents and establish position both offensively and defensively. He was able to get himself to the rim and finish both through his opponent as well as over the top.
Stanford had a really solid showing at The Stage. He showed range on his jumper by hitting a corner triple in the game that I watched. He was also able to play bigger than his height by rebounding high and going back up strong with the ball. Stanford was able to push the ball and score in transitionn.
Brett McKeon
Brett McKeon
McKeon was that 2 way player that coaches love when I saw him last weekend. Offensively, he had a triple off a catch and shoot that he looked very comfortable with. On the other end of the floor, McKeon forced a couple turnovers the he turned directly into buckets on the offensive end.
Leslie Pobee
Leslie Pobee
I really like the upside that Pobee’s game carries. He works very hard on the glass on both ends. He doesn’t wait for the rebound to come to him, but instead, goes after it. Pobee works equally as hard when playing defense. He combines physicality and athleticism nicely.
Tj Minor Jr.
Tj Minor Jr.
Minor Jr. was at another level at The Stage. He was a slippery athlete that got up and down the floor in a hurry. He filled wings nicely on the break and seemed to have a really nice feel for spacing in the open floor.
Myles Ellis
Myles Ellis
Ellis stood out with his play over the weekend. He was an aggressive player with a definite downhill style to his game. He was able to beat the defense down the floor in transition for an easy bucket. Ellis had a pretty drive and dish as well. He was a menace on D, accounting for at least 3 steals early in 1 game.
Wes Rahn
Wes Rahn
Rahn was a force and a very tough matchup at The Stage. He had a rare combination of size, strength and athletic ability that made life tough for opponents. Rahn was highly influential on both ends, providing an option overtop offensively and a rim protector on defense.
This is the second grassroots event that I’ve been able to see Moody at, and I’ll admit, I like what he can do and what he can turn his game into. He’s a strong and physical young man, but has soft feet and can play with touch on the offensive end. Moody was seeing the floor well this weekend.
Luke Ford
Luke Ford
Ford was one of the highlights of a 12 hour day of basketball on Saturday. He was one of the best shooters I saw in the approximately 7 gyms that I visited this weekend. Ford was money from both the wing and the corners, always catching the ball ready to shoot and in rythm.
Alex Sabaugh
Alex Sabaugh
Sabaugh was a huge part of a big Cougars win on Sunday. He played with a fire and determination that was admirable. Sabaugh thrived in physicality. He was relentless when it came to pursuing position and going after rebounds and loose balls. This allowed Sabaugh to pick up some high quality looks at the rim.
