Even as some of the top players in their class, they are in position to be even better this spring as they round out their games and hone in on what makes them special prospects. Here is part two of my posts and wings set for big AAU seasons. You can check out part one here.
Zaveon Jones Zaveon Jones 6'2" | SF Mountlake Terrace | 2024 State WA | FOH Seattle | 2024
If you are looking for a player to fight inside, this is your guy. Jones burst on the scene in his sophomore year in an epic run to a sixth-place finish at state. Since then, he has taken it to larger post players and displayed an uncanny ability to finish around the rim despite being only 6-foot-2. He’s been showing a growing ability to take guys off the dribble from the perimeter and will be a grinder regardless of where he lines up this spring.
Jacob Cofie Jacob Cofie 6'10" | PF Eastside Catholic | 2024 State #97 Nation WA | Rotary Rebels EYBL | 2024
The top forward in his class and a nationally regarded recruit, Cofie will draw some big crowds this spring. He really rounded out his game in the high school season, becoming an outstanding shooter from all over the court, picking up more ballhandling duties, and continuing to defend the rim with a vengeance. He will have some big opportunities on the Nike circuit this year.
Miles Goodman Miles Goodman 6'10" | PF Southern California Academy | 2024 CA-S | Rotary Rebels EYBL | 2024
Goodman made huge strides last spring and summer, especially during some showcases where there was more room to operate for the big man. He worked heavily on incorporating an improving jump shot, both from the mid-range with his back to the basket, and spotting up from behind the arc. I would anticipate him continuing to show improvement in that area and working it more into his game on the Nike circuit.
Luke Westerfield Luke Westerfield 6'10" | PF Richland | 2024 State WA | Rotary Rebels EYBL | 2024
Yet another talented big man for the Rotary Rebels, Westerfield is a high-level rim defender who shows good touch in the paint, and also an emerging jumper specifically from 3-point. With his skill set, I would look for him to use this spring and summer to get stronger, continue to develop the 3-point shot and develop that footwork inside to beef up his scoring and match what he brings on the defensive end.
Jacori Ervin Jacori Ervin 6'11" | PF North Central | 2024 State WA | WA Supreme | 2024
There are a lot of big men in the 2024 class really starting to come into their own and Ervin is yet another one who cracks this list. He was way more physical last season, posting up inside, crashing the offensive glass, and rim-running in transition to finish with authority. If he continues in that direction, look for a big spring from the 6-foot-10 forward.
Champ Powaukee Champ Powaukee 6'4" | SG Pullman | 2024 State WA | BDH Elite | 2024
The wing played a complementary role last season as his high school team chased a perfect season. They came up short, but Powaukee will be back next year as their top returner. He’s a super athlete from the wings who can go up and over or around top defenders at the rim. He has the jumper to be effective from long-range too and will get plenty of opportunities to work on refining his offensive game to score more off of the dribble and get used to all the decision-making that comes with having the ball in your hands a lot more.
Dylan Jay Dylan Jay 6'4" | SG Phhoenix Prep | 2024 State AZ | BDH Elite | 2024
Jay has already gotten off to a hot start this spring, scoring the ball with efficiency and showing he can work through air-tight defenses. If he keeps going at this rate he should get plenty of attention this AAU season. He has an opportunity to continue growing as a leader and challenging himself defensively, showing he is more than just an incredible shooter.
Evan Stinson Evan Stinson 6'7" | SF Cheney | 2024 State #223 Nation WA | Spokane Flight | 2024
Stinson was a revelation of sorts last spring and summer. After showing potential in his sophomore season, he came out in the AAU season and tore it up. He’s really able to show his basketball IQ with this Spokane Flight team, affecting the game on both ends and demonstrating the natural feel he has as a 6-foot-6 playmaker.
