Grant may not be the biggest or most athletic guard, but he just goes out and makes winning plays. He’s such a good passer who can make the simple passes to set his teammates up, but also showcased some flair with two behind the back assists in the games I watched. Grant excelled in the role of his team’s floor general, but could also add a bit of scoring with his three point range. Great communicator who acts as a second coach on the floor and also works his tail off on the defensive end.
Jy’rell Cousins
Jy’rell Cousins
Jy’rell had some impressive flashes with NESYB Hoops over the weekend. He has a strong frame at 6’5 but is very light on his feet and with that was able to create off the dribble on the perimeter. Early in the game he created separation off the bounce for a pull-up jumper and I think he caught just about the entire gym off guard with that one. His shot went a bit cold in the second half, but his first half was very impressive as he knocked down a handful of jumpers off the dribble and used his frame around the rim for some tough finishes through contact. He averaged roughly 7 points and 7 rebounds per game as a junior and could be a big time double-double threat next winter.
Darius is one of the better unsigned seniors remaining in Wisconsin, and he made some big plays on the defensive end in the game I watched. He has a strong frame for a high school guard, is laterally quick, and works hard on and off the ball. Made some big plays as a help-side shot blocker with his ability to explode off the floor and swat shots. Shot wasn’t falling in the game I saw, but showed off a quick burst off the dribble to get to the rim and hang in the air to finish. Explosive athlete out of the Madison area.
Evan put together a solid showing for 24:Up against a tough MN Rise team. He’s a shifty guard who can handle it under pressure and get his team into their offense, but he can also score the ball on his own. Really good three point shooter off the catch and dribble, and he was showing the ability to stretch the floor from well beyond the high school three point line. Type of player who can catch fire and swing the momentum of a game in a matter of minutes.
Landen Thomer
Landen Thomer
Landen is such an impressive passer at 6’4. He just doesn’t seem to miss an open teammate, and just as impressive is the accuracy at which he delivers his passes. Every pass seemed to be right into his teammates’ hands allowing them to quickly catch and shoot on the perimeter. Thomer was finding his guys from the perimeter, while also being able to get into the paint and create open teammates on his own by forcing the defense to collapse on him. Also showed a smooth shot from three and was able to get into that shot off the dribble multiple times.
Dante Passello
Dante Passello
Dante brought an extra bit of athleticism to the floor for a solid Wisconsin Academy team. He has some impressive change of speed, as he can hesitate and then blow by his man to get to the rim. When Passello gets a clear path to the hoop he seems to just glide to the rim before laying it in. In the game I saw he had success getting to the basket to finish both in transition and in half-court situations.
Cooper Zimmerman
Cooper Zimmerman
Cooper impressed with his versatility at 6’4 for World Hoops Elite . He has a solid frame which allows him to guard bigger forwards in the paint, but is mobile enough to slide his feet on the perimeter against wings. Impressed with his off-ball defense as well as he could slide into position to block/contest shots. Offensively he showed he can stretch the floor while using his strong frame to finish through some contact inside. Moves a bit better on the ball than I originally knew as opposing bigs had a hard time keeping him in front.
