Wisconsin Sophomore ID Camp: Team 9 Evaluation

On a team, with good size and prolific scorers, Kelly looked comfortable as the glue guy at The Sophomore ID camp. Playing solid defense, Kelley also made good decisions with the ball, worked to get open, and scrapped for every possession. Kelley is the type of player who will earn minutes at the varsity level due to his effort.     Sprang, a 5-10 [program_tooltip program_id='2829078' first='West' last='De Pere'] product, had a nice showing at the Sophomore ID Camp on Saturday. One of the better defenders, that I watched, Sprang had an assortment of steals both on-ball and in the passing lanes. Offensively he was solid showing a quick release, on his jumper, as well as good touch around the rim.     Santana, 6-3, out of The Lincoln Academy, is a player that will soon be on college coaches radars after what I saw from him on Saturday at the Champion Center. Possessing good size, and length, Santana showed the makings of an elite rim protector with the ability to finish creatively around the rim while being able to step out and knock down 20 foot jumpers.     In a showcase, where most players are trying to get up as many shots as possible, Muhle was a bit of a "breath of fresh air" as a true pass-first point guard. Showing good court awareness, Muhle had some nice pinpoint passes, to his teammates, including a lob to teammate for a thunderous dunk over the defense. When it was time to call his own number, Muhle showed a nice floater package often scoring at difficult angles.     Another member of Team 9 with good size as well as a solid overall game, Melvin showed why he is currently the #3 ranked PF in the class. Relentless on the boards, the 6-6 Hartford product accounted for numerous rebounds and showed nice touch anytime he had the ball around the rim. While he shot only 28% from three, last season, his touch looks improved as he knocked down a couple of long balls. With Hartford graduating three of their top five scorers Melvin's play will be key for the Orioles this winter.     One of the stronger rebounders that I watched, the 6-6 Casto impressed, on both ends, with his effort and how he used his strong frame to dominate the glass. Solid in the screen and roll game, Casto is the type of "big" who helps open the floor up for his teammates.     Currin measures 6-3 but plays much bigger. Solidly built, Currin stood out as one of the better screeners as well as hard to move once he established box out position. Not just a "big" Currin showed a nice touch knocking down a handful from 18 feet and out.     One of the better athletes that I had the chance to watch, the uber-athletic Foeckler dazzled with an assortment of dunks including catching a lob and throwing it down over multiple defenders. Not just a high flyer, the 6-5 Franklin product, while not having his way getting to the hoop, showed true three-level scoring ability hitting from all areas on the court.     Big, strong physical player, Balandran is sure to be on people's radars after his performance at the Sophomore ID camp on Saturday. When not scoring off of multiple rebound putbacks, the 6-6 Balandran showed that he was a threat, off the dribble, one on occasion driving past his defender and finishing off balance through contact.
