There were over 30 teams ranging from 17U-15U, with some of the top teams in the area taking place.
We will be spending the next week breaking down the many standouts we saw at the event. If you want to watch the replay, you can see it on the CBG Live Network.
Here’s a look at some of the many 17U standouts from the DMV teams in the event.
Khani Rooths | 6’8” WF | New World
Perhaps the best long term prospect in the event, Rooths is coming off a big junior season at IMG and he’s trending in the right direction as he’s starting to round out his game and become more productive in different ways. He was absolutely dynamic in transition showing good footwork and explosion as a finisher around the rim, he made shots from deep and in the midrange in the half court and his versatility and ability to play and guard almost every position on the floor is very impressive. He will be one of the most highly touted prospects on the 3SSB Circuit this summer and should see an uptick in his already impressive offer sheet.
Ty Bevins Ty Bevins 6'5" | SG Gwynn Park | 2024 State #157 Nation MD | 6’5” CG | New World
Bevins is coming off a good junior season at Gwynn Park, and if he plays the way he did Saturday throughout the AAU scene he should catch attention from high major coaches left and right. The 6’5” combo has great size and is a good athlete who can get downhill and finish around the rim, he can see over defenders and delivers passes on the money and he has great instincts and feel on the defensive end too. He can score the ball efficiently in different ways and he makes everyone on his team better at the same time.
Caden Diggs Caden Diggs 6'7" | SF Bullis | 2024 State #125 Nation MD | 6’7” WF | New World
Diggs has emerged as one of the best prospects in the DMV area after transferring to Bullis last year, and the 6’7” wing has a blend of physical tools, athleticism and high upside that makes him very intriguing to division one schools. He has a basketball frame with long arms that should fill out well moving forward, he showed his ability to get out in transition and both play at the rim and spot up for shots where he’s become a more consistent shooter and he can get downhill in straight lines where he can finish through contact. His biggest intrigue comes on the defensive end though, as he has all the tools to be a lock down perimeter defender at the next level.
Kris Johnson Kris Johnson 6'4" | SG Grace Brethren Christian (MD) | 2024 State #288 Nation MD | 6’5” CG | New World
If you haven’t been able to tell from the last few write ups, New World’s calling card is their defense and Johnson fits in perfectly with that as the 6’5” guard is a pit bull of a defender who can guard multiple positions. He’s an intense competitor who moves his feet well and stays in front of ball handlers, he can handle it in transition where he has good speed and makes good reads and he’s very difficult to stop when he wants to get in the paint and get to the rim. He has a well-rounded skillset that includes the ability to make shots from multiple levels and he impacts the game across the board.
Royce Parham | 6’10” PF | Team Durant
While Durant went 0-2 on the weekend they didn’t duck any smoke playing both New World and Team Loaded VA, and Parham showed why he’s considered the best prospect in Western PA in his class. The 6’10” forward is a walking mismatch with his versatility on the offensive end as he has great touch from all three levels, he hits the offensive glass and seals in the paint to be able to score it over either shoulder and he can step out and face up defenders where he can put the ball on the deck and get to spots to score it over the defense. He’s a smooth athlete that’s a Swiss-army knife offensively and should be a walking double-double in the EYBL this year.
Del Jones | 6’1” PG | Team Durant
Jones is one of the most naturally gifted guards you will come across in the 2024 class, as he has the ability to takeover basketball games and is very difficult to guard in isolation situations. The 6’1” lead guard is lightning quick off the bounce but also changes speeds and directions well with a shifty handle, he can get downhill and touch the paint where he can finish at the rim or in the midrange with a variety of floaters and pull-ups and he can create space on the perimeter and has excellent range as a shooter. What he lacks in size he makes up for with his big time athleticism, all-around skillset and impressive shot making ability.
Domonic Stewart | 6’5” WG | Team Durant
Stewart is coming off of a big year in the Elite Prep League where he played up in post grad basketball play with Mt. Zion, and he should turn some heads in the EYBL this year. The 6’5” wing is the perfect secondary option as he can exploit mismatches with his ability to put it on the deck and hit tough contested shots in the midrange, he can move off the ball where he’s a good shooter from deep and he’s an athletic finisher in transition and when he gets downhill. He has a savvy about him as he shows good instincts on both ends of the floor and consistently makes tough shots in late shot clock situations.
