Continue ReadingThe word mercurial is going to be attributed to Anderson. The 6’6 forward is a unique talent who at times looks like a clear cut D1 prospect. Based on what I saw this weekend there are not 20 players in his class better than him. He was dominant in two phases of the game, rebounding and passing. His ability to grab the rebound, lead the break and then make the correct pass, is amazing, and easily translatable. Consistency is always key, and if he can put together more performances like this weekend, expect him to rise.

There may be no more accomplished coach in the state than Boulder City HC John Balistreri and he speaks the world of Rose. It’s easy to see why. He shot the ball really well yesterday, but did a good job of mixing it up with drives to the hoop. He moves well without the ball, and has some Dawg in him. Look for him to be one of the favorites for 3A POY next season.

It’s been too long since I’ve had the opportunity to lay eyes on Gaeta. I’m glad I did. The Sage Ridge star has some game. He’s a dedicated downhill driver that showed he can finish. He plays with a good combination of pace, and aggression. The PG had a sick move, while splitting full court pressure, showing off his high-level COD ability.
There’s high motor players, and then there’s Richardson. He reminds me of former Gaels star, and LSU Tiger M’wani Wilkinson, right now. Richardson just concluded his freshman season. He had a dunk that looked as if he was jumping off a trampoline, and he must have hit the ground half a dozen times in a game his team won by 60. His ability to grab rebounds can only be described as elite, as numerous times he wrestled away 50/50 boards from multiple opponents. I’m sure he scored some points too, but it was his overall dominance of every other facet of the game that impressed me.

Contreas is an unsigned senior with a lot of potential. He was a versatile offensive weapon that played all 5 positions for TBU. They started games, by feeding him the ball in the post, and then used him as a primary ballhandler when teams, began to pressure. The point forward was one of the better shooters on the day as well, knocking down a bunch of threes throughout the event.
Williams played with an extremely high motor on Saturday, showing that he can impact games in a variety of ways. The long armed forward gathered several grity rebounds for his team, and won more than his share of 50/50 balls. He’s a multiple effort type that showed good defensive instincts jumping passing lanes for steals on multiple occasions.
I’m not sure what I was more impressed with, Cotton’s shooting, or his defense. He had some of the quickest hands I saw, absolutely demoralizing opposing ballhandlers. He’s a pick pocket that plays lock down on ball defense. Offensively he controlled the pace, calmly sinking threes whenever he was left open. Most impressively about his shooting, was that most of his made threes came off the bounce, as he was an expert at stopping on a dime before pulling up from behind the arc.
