First Team
PG- Jordan Briggs Jordan Briggs 6'0" | PG Muskegon | 2023 State MI 6-0 2023 Muskegon (pictured) The Wayne St commit ended his career in style for the Big Reds. Had an excellent all around performance in Friday’s semifinal victory. Posted an impressive line of 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Team highs in all three categories. However beyond the impressive stat line. Provided excellent defense to slow down St Mary’s sophomore Sharod Barnes Sharod Barnes 6'2" | SG Orchard Lake St, Mary's | 2025 State #365 Nation MI . Nearly led a comeback in Saturday’s final. Did that mostly from beyond the arc. Notched a nearly identical state line of 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists. With most of that coming in the second half. The only thing his impressive four year resume is missing is a state championship. Came up just short on Saturday. Is joining an impressive recruiting class in downtown Detroit. Maybe he can get that trophy at the next level.
SG- Darius Acuff 6-1 2025 Detroit Cass Tech **MVP** To the victors go the spoils. Had an absolutely scintillating weekend in leading Cass Tech to its first ever basketball state championship. Produced the moment of the weekend. A buzzer beating banked in three to send the semi final against Grand Blanc into overtime. Would be an understatement to say he is not afraid of the moment. Took said shot after being held scoreless and virtually without a touch in the second half. Played even better in Saturday’s championship contest. Finished with 19 points. Ran the point for large stretches. Had to do this after fellow underclassmen standout Corey Sadler Jr fouled out in early in the fourth quarter. As good as he was on offense. Was just as potent on the defensive end. Did I mention he is only a sophomore? Just completed one of the more impressive 10th grade campaigns in recent Michigan high school history. The top player in the famed Detroit PSL and a state champion. That is going to be tough act to follow. Excited to watch him do it in the next few years.
SF- Anthony Perdue Anthony Perdue SF Grand Blanc | 2024 State MI 6-3 2024 Grand Blanc Player who earned this spot the hard way. Was outstanding on the defensive end of the court. I mentioned above that Acuff was held scoreless and virtually without a touch in the second half of Friday’s semifinal. That was due to the defense effort unleashed by Perdue. While it wasn’t enough the earn the Bobcats the victory. You couldn’t come any closer. Before being switched into full denial mode. Showed offensive upside in the first half. Impressive length and lateral quickness help him on both ends of the court.
PF- Travon Cooper Travon Cooper 6'4" | SF Detroit Cass Tech | 2024 State MI 6-4 2023 Detroit Cass Tech Have to take a little victory lap here. Earlier in the month I identified Cooper as a player who could decide the division. While Acuff will get many of the accolades (justifiably so) Cooper’s play down low for a small Cass Tech squad was vital. Nearly put up a double double with 19 points and eight rebounds in the championship. Did this against a Muskegon frontline that had a decided size advantage. Did the same thing on Friday against another big unit in Grand Blanc. Also had some impressive and emphatic above the rim blocks.
C- Terrance Davis Terrance Davis 6'6" | PF Muskegon | 2024 State MI 6-6 2024 Muskegon Was big literally and figuratively down low for the Big Reds. Imposed his will against two squads with smaller frontlines. While he has a thick sturdy frame. Showed the ability to finish easily at and above the rim. Had impressive two handed dunks in both contests. Dealt with foul trouble all weekend. After being backcourt heavy for the past few years. Muskegon’s focus should move down to the low block next year. Davis should lead that attack next year along with some other impressive other returnees (see below)
Second Team
PG- RJ Taylor RJ Taylor 6'0" | PG Grand Blanc | 2023 State #262 Nation MI 6-0 2023 Grand Blanc Wrapped up perhaps one of the most impressive three year tournament runs in recent history on Friday afternoon. A state title as a sophomore. Followed by a final appearance as a junior. Came up just short due to Acuff’s aforementioned dramatic buzzer beater. I’m not going to provide stats. Taylor contributions go far beyond counting statistics. Northern Iowa is getting one of the better “winners” Michigan has produced in quite some time.
SG- Kenneth Robertson Kenneth Robertson 6'1" | PG Detroit Cass Tech | 2023 State MI 6-1 2023 Detroit Cass Tech An impressive all around performance for one of the Technicians unheralded players. Finished with 16 points and five rebounds. However the stats only tell part of the story. Leader of the “Press Tech” defensive effort was all over the court. Frequently getting deflections and double teaming the ball off the first pass.
SF- Anthony Sydnor III Anthony Sydnor III 6'3" | PG Muskegon | 2023 State MI 6-3 2023 Muskegon While Perdue’s defense on Acuff might have been the defensive performance of the weekend. Syndnor’s defense on St Mary’s super sophomore Trey McKenney Trey McKenney 6'4" | CG Orchard Lake St. Mary's | 2025 State #27 Nation MI is a close second. However it wasn’t all defense for the Ferris St commitment. Scored in double figures in both contests. Lanky player should be a good fit for a Bulldog program that has had success with prospects who fit this profile in the past.
PF- Trey McKenney Trey McKenney 6'4" | CG Orchard Lake St. Mary's | 2025 State #27 Nation MI 6-5 2025 Orchard Lake St Mary’s After a dominating month of March to get to this round. McKenney didn’t have his best outing on Friday. However he was up against dogged defense from Muskegon and Sydnor (see above). Despite this defense. Still finished with 20 points. Showed off his usual “beyond his years” offensive game. Replete with an array of jab steps, step backs, and fall aways. Like Acuff has a tough act to follow in the next few years. The top 25 national recruit is must see for Michigan high school basketball fans.
C- Justin Watson Justin Watson 6'7" | SF Muskegon | 2024 State MI 6-6 2024 Muskegon Was Muskegon’s top bench contributor on the weekend. Saturday’s final was his standout performance. Nearly shot Muskegon to a title from beyond the arc. Finished with 12 points from four deep threes. Has a smooth and confident release. Listed as a center only for the purposes of this article. Will be able to play the three next year for the Big Reds. Has the skill set to do it. After Saturday’s performance. A big grassroots season could really see his recruitment take off.
