One of my favorite parts of this job is covering various on campus elite camps. Much different than multi court AAU events or regular season contests. Just close to 100 players on 2-4 courts going at it with college coaches watching.

That being said, you wouldn't know it from this year's schedule. No excuses, just didn't line up with my scheduled as much this year. I tried to make up for lost time by hitting two in one weekend. Hillsdale on Saturday and Saginaw Valley St on Sunday. To my mild surprise I wasn't the only one pulling double duty. Following is a list of top performers who played well on both campi (going back to campus made me want to dust off the Latin)

[player_tooltip player_id='2539747' first='Logan' last='Farmer'] 6-3 2028 Pewamo-Westphalia (pictured) Lansing area prospect has played at high profile programs his entire career. I've seen him play many times. Familiarity does not breed contempt in this case. Perhaps the opposite. As a rising freshman playing in the same regular and grassroots program as Grady Eklund (Northwood) My early notes were that Farmer possessed a similar skillset, but I did not think he would reach Eklund's lofty heights as a player. As he becomes an upperclassman, I might have been off in that assessment. Farmer is well disciplined and plays within the flow of an offense even in an elite camp setting. Gets into the paint often with a quick first step. Plays off of two feet once there. Giving the option to both pass and shoot as his size allows him to his easily see over defenders. Versatility is the skeleton key here. Not much he can't do at 6-3. This allows him to play all five spots at the Division III high school level. If he can continue growing vertically and add weight. I believe he can play and guard positions 1-3 at Division II level in college. PW loses a lot of production from a state championship winning team. If Farmer continues to play like he did in the spring/summer. Don't be surprised if the Pirates season ends in the same place last year. I'm not fully predicting a state championship. However, Farmer is good enough to get then back to the Breslin Center.

[player_tooltip player_id='3567328' first='Ty' last='Goddard'] 6-3 2027 Schoolcraft Similar player to Farmer (see above) Multiyear contributor at a high-profile program that graduates Division II talent. Goddard's aggressiveness at both camps were what caught my eye. He did not come to make friends at these camps. That is not a bad thing. Particularly at Hillsdale. Aggressively drove to the basket and sought out contact. Often finishing through it with strength. While he doesn't have the long-range rep of teammate [player_tooltip player_id='2935399' first='Kodee' last='Bienz'] He is still a fluid shooter from beyond the arc. This kept defenses honest and opened up driving lanes. Coming off a strong grassroots run with [program_tooltip program_id='2269794' first='United' last='Persuit'] on the Puma circuit. His trajectory could be like Farmer's. Those expecting an Eagle fall off might be surprised by Goddard's increased role and production as a senior.

[player_tooltip player_id='2835731' first='Elijah' last='Brooks'] 6-3 2027 Kalamazoo Central Staying in the Kalamazoo area. I don't have as many notes from Brooks' Hilldale participation. However, he stood out at Saginaw Valley the next day. The definition of a power two guard. Has thick upper body that allows to create space on the perimeter and the paint. Contrasts the power with smooth and fundamentally sound release in the mid-range. Has vertical bounce that allows him to rise over most defenders in this area of the court. Did this all with what appeared to be a significant injury to his hand. Is getting an expanded role and spotlight transferring to the Maroon Giants. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts after a strong run in Division III with Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic.

[player_tooltip player_id='2539732' first='Hudson' last='Mclean'] 6-4 2028 Traverse City Central The Northern Michigan forward played well at both locations. But he really popped at Hillsdale. Shot the ball extremely well. This important for a few reasons. First and foremost, as he becomes as upperclassmen. Mclean appears to be moving to the wing full time. He still has unique release on his shot. However, it is certainly repeatable and highly effective. Secondly while he moves further away from the basket he is maintaining the strong frame that made him a productive post when he was younger. In Saginaw he showed increased foot speed in the drill stations that emphasized off ball movement. Moved well around chairs and cones with good lateral quickness. Caught the ball in the shooting motion and got it up quickly. In Hillsdale showed the strength by finishing through contact often. A prospect to watch in what is shaping up to be a deep 2028 class in Northern Michigan.

[player_tooltip player_id='2907064' first='Anthony' last='Mull'] 6-5 2028 Flint Carman Ainsworth Another scout covered his Hillsdale participation. Consequently, this capsule might be a little brief. Straight to the point. This is what a college wing looks like. Passes the eye test in a major way. With a long, lean, and athletic frame. It is much than just the look test here though. Shot and handled the ball very well in both locations. Gets to his spots and rises over most defenders with relative ease. Might need to be a little more physical at the rim. I use the "might" because elite elevation could alleviate that concern. Long strider who covers a lot of ground on both ends of the court. Coming off a breakout grassroots run with the [program_tooltip program_id='2078459' first='Michigan' last='Playmakers']. Looks to be poised for a big junior year with the Cavs.

One of my favorite parts of this job is covering various on campus elite camps. Much different than multi court AAU events or regular season contests. Just close to 100 players on 2-4 courts going at it with college coaches watching.
