The top player in Michigan’s 2025 class, McKenney returned from injury and had an impressive game leading his team to victory. A strong guard, McKenney does an excellent job of hitting the defense first and playing off his physicality. With excellent touch, McKenney profiles as an elite shot maker at the high major college level. I was also impressed with the pair of blocks McKenney had, including one that he pinned off the backboard. Not much more can be said about McKenney, he’s one of the highest ranked guards in the country and staying in-state to put on the Maize and Blue.

McKenney seems like a great place to start. The University of Michigan commit showed exactly why he’s considered a premier national prospect. McKenney finished with a game high 32 points. He hit at least 7 triples in the game, and I might be missing a couple in my notes. McKenney was lights out with his pull up jumper from beyond the arc. He even hit 1 that was probably through contact. McKenney needed very little space to get his shot off and showed DEEP range. At times it almost looked like he was shooting through defenders. In the second half we saw his game expand. He initiated contact on a lefty drive and drew a foul and also scored off an offensive rebound and put back.

This one seems obvious. McKenney isn’t a Michigan grassroots MOP. He’s a national grassroots MOP. The Family star was just too strong, too smart and too athletic to stop. Even at the highest levels of competition he stood out among his peers. McKenney in particular flashed what might be the best mid range game in the country in his class.
